We are less than two weeks away from SummerSlam, and there are high expectations. This is perhaps one of the most exciting SummerSlams we have seen in some time, plus the card is plentiful and is worth looking forward to. This is the first major PPV of the New Era and it is bound to deliver. And with that could come an upset loss or two.
There are some high profile matches on this card, and many surprises in the buildup to make it happen. We’ve seen the strong debut of Finn Balor and Dolph Ziggler become a sleeper winner to the SmackDown main event. There are new faces challenging for Championships and some feuds that’ll close chapters. Seth Rollins was right that it is indeed an exciting time for pro wrestling.
So what are some of the upsets that we can expect at the party of the summer? Let’s take a look.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
5. Apollo Crews captures the Intercontinental Championship
I’d say this would be a sleeper winner. With The Miz’s ego a huge part of his character, it wouldn’t surprise me to the least that it gets in the way of this match. That should be the story if WWE goes this route.
The Miz may think he has nothing to worry about, and he’s got this match won. In short, he underestimates the talented Crews, and Crews takes advantage of this.
4. Dolph Ziggler wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
It was already surprising enough that Ziggler is in one of the main event matchups for SummerSlam. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, what would really shock the WWE Universe is if Ziggler actually wins the Championship from Dean Ambrose.
This would be the night’s biggest surprise, and that is actually not a bad thing. I don’t mind a program with these two guys. I’ll wait for the IWC to explode on this one.
3. Finn Balor wins the WWE Universal Championship
It’s no secret to fans that Balor is white hot right now with a strong Raw debut and has been on a hot trail ever since. Balor and Rollins will surely deliver in this main event bout, no doubt about it.
If Balor can overcome Rollins and his ego, then the win will speak volumes about the future of WWE. With his booking already displaying huge promise, it would be monumental if Balor does become the first Universal Champion. The Demon is not to be messed with.
2. Randy Orton beats Brock Lesnar
At first, I wasn’t big on this matchup, but has WWE put in the effort for these two? With Lesnar’s failed drug tests from UFC, it’s hard to say what WWE will do post SummerSlam when it comes to him. But enough with the heavy.
Last week, both men paid the other a visit on the opponent’s brands in attempts to outsmart one another, and fans have eaten this up. No doubt Orton is ready for the challenge, and while it’s a long shot to conquer the Beast Incarnate, the irony is if Orton actually wins this matchup, the shock will rival the Streak being broken.
Never underestimate the Viper.
1. AJ Styles pins John Cena Clean
Styles v. Cena will be the match to watch at SummerSlam and the two men know that there is a lot at stake. Both men have to bring it and fight to the finish on this one. Styles is a much better athlete, and Cena knows he has to show up to work at SummerSlam to prove he can hang with the world renowned veteran.
Cena is known for winning his feuds and winning the third matchup with his opponent. But what if WWE pulls a swerve and Styles overcomes the Cenation leader? Minds will be blown and the Internet might just explode.
