5 Potential Finishes for Jon Moxley vs Mr Brodie Lee at AEW Double or Nothing

At All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing pay-per-view this weekend, the AEW World Heavyweight Championship is on the line. Current champion Jon Moxley will take on the leader of The Dark Order, 'The Exalted One', Mr. Brodie Lee.

The title match has been hyped for a few weeks now, with the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite featuring Jon Moxley breaking the arm of the most trusted Dark Order minion, 10, further adding to how personal this feud has become.

So, following its intense build-up, how could this match end? It is sure to be an interesting encounter due to the nature of both men's characters. The defending champion is a 'lone wolf' who likes no-one at his side. Brodie Lee is a cult-like leader, with an army of mindless drones at his disposal. The contrast between the two is clear to see.

So, let's get straight into it as I cover five potential ways the match between Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship could end.

#5 - Jon Moxley Brutalises Lee

Current world champion Jon Moxley has been on a tear since debuting at the initial Double or Nothing PPV

Jon Moxley has been one of the highlights of AEW product ever since he debuted at the end of the inaugural Double or Nothing PPV in Las Vegas last year - to a crowd losing their collective minds!

Whether it be 'Le Champion' Chris Jericho, who Moxley defeated to win the title, The Inner Circle, or countless other members of the AEW locker-room, 'Mox' has never backed down. The reigning champion has always fought hard and, typically, come out victorious. So who's to say he won't do the same this time?

Sure, make it a hard fought battle between the two, but don't just treat Brodie Lee like the sacrificial lambs he views his followers as. Instead, have Moxley stand tall and move on to his next target. Moxley and Lee could create proper magic together if they are given the time that they both deserve. However, that doesn't mean you need to give 'The Exalted One' the belt at this point.

With Jon Moxley winning clean, Brodie Lee can drop lower down the card, where many feel he's best suited with this gimmick at this current time. This would then allow for a new challenger - who fans are more invested in - to step up to the plate and try and defeat the most talked about man in wrestling last year.

#4 - Brodie Lee Wins Clean

Brodie Lee is currently undefeated in the All Elite Wrestling ring.

When 'The Exalted One' storyline started on AEW Dynamite, the wrestling world theorised on almost every possiblity under the sun as to who it could be. Matt Hardy? Raven? CM Punk? Christopher Daniels? All those and more were speculated upon, but, when the former Luke Harper appeared as Brodie Lee in his debut video package and took out Christopher Daniels, everyone took notice.

Despite his strong debut, however, it's not been plain sailing for Brodie Lee - a former member of The Wyatt Family in WWE. The comparisons made to Vince McMahon with the Brodie Lee character have turned many fans off. Leading a group like The Dark Order that has already met with negative fan reception during its initial run, Brodie Lee needs something that turns fan opinion around.

While winning the world title completely clean probably wouldn't be the most well received booking decision in the eyes of AEW fans, it would give Brodie Lee a true purpose at the top of the card, allowing him enough storyline material to get his teeth into. By giving the Brodie Lee their top championship, AEW would bring a real sense of importance to The Dark Order faction, something which it lacked during its early days.

#3 - Moxley retains...via disqualification

Jon Moxley has been champion since winning the title at Revolution back in February.

It's not an an ideal ending to a championship match, but it's one that protects both Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee.

One of the biggest issues many have with the match-up is that neither man should really be losing. Jon Moxley, in the eyes of the AEW fanbase, shouldn't be losing his championship this early in his run - especially as the majority of it has taken place inside an empty arena.

However, Brodie Lee probably shouldn't be defeated in his first match of importance either. We've seen individuals come into the company, such as Shawn Spears, lose their first match on a pay-per-view event and fall down to the bottom of the card. So...how do we fix it? Well, that's where The Dark Order come into things.

It would be interesting to say the least if Brodie Lee looks to be about to lose to the former 'Lunatic Fringe' and, as a result of this, The Dark Order minions rush the ring and attack Moxley, ending the match via disqualification. The story could go one of two ways as well. One could be that Brodie Lee has ordered his minions to get involved if it looks like he is about to be defeated. A more interesting option, though, would be for Brodie Lee's followers to go into business for themselves and get involved.

Brodie Lee could become furious at his minions, going on a tirade, beating them all down and resetting The Dark Order. Alternatively, the minions could even come together and turn on Brodie Lee, having had enough of him as their leader.

#2 - 'No Clear Winner'

Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee are going head to head, much like they did in the past in WWE.

This is definitely my personal least favourite of all five options, but one I can definitely seeing the AEW higher ups executing on Saturday night, as they look to keep both Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee strong.

Much like the previous point, the idea of a double count out or a finish where Moxley and Lee are deemed 'unable to compete' would enable both men to get out of the match with neither eating a loss - and Moxley keeping his title.

Whilst there are several creative ways of doing this, especially with no fans being in attendance, as seen with WWE's recent 'cinematic' style matches. It certainly does run the risk of angering the audience watching on pay-pay-view, though. Generally, wrestling fans don't agree with the idea of a major world championship match not having a conclusive finish. These sorts of finishes can devalue a championship and take away from the big fight feel at the end of a bout. It would be controversial for AEW to go in this direction with the Jon Moxley Vs. Brodie Lee match.

However, if AEW do it correctly, it could work incredibly well. It would either set up an immediate rematch with a stipulation - or the promotion could move on to other feuds for both men. The option to return to story between Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee would always be there at a later date for AEW.

#1 - The Dark Order gain a powerful member

Rick Knox is the senior referee in All Elite Wrestling.

The Dark Order, despite Brodie Lee's protests otherwise, is basically the dictionary definition of a cult. And what do cults do better than anything else? Recruit members.

We've already seen it - with Alex Reynolds, John Silver, '10' and others - The Dark Order and Brodie Lee have slowly been building a large army of wrestlers. But, what if they expanded? What if they moved into non-wrestling roles that would benefit them in the long term? Enter: a referee.

While Rick Knox is in the above picture, any referee (probably with the exception of Aubrey Edwards due to how over she is with fans) could be used in this role. Have Brodie Lee and Jon Moxley compete for the majority of the match, before Moxley is attacked by Dark Order minions, or 'The Exalted One' cheats in some way. Despite the rules being broken, the referee inexplicably lets it go and allows Lee to win the title in an unjust way.

This could be a slow burn of a story, with fans slowly coming to the conclusion that when the specific referee is the official for a Dark Order match, the group always somehow manages to win. I think it's a cool idea to have a non-wrestling figure be involved with the faction, especially a referee who can influence matches.

The eventual reveal would need to be backed up with a strong storyline explanation afterwards. Brodie Lee, though, is a character that has always been good at influencing others. With the right execution, AEW can pull this sort of story off perfectly.
