Wet blanket time.
WWE has been doing some pretty racy segments over the last couple of weeks and while they were certainly attention-grabbing, they also seemed like a waste of time. Beyond that, the segments made absolutely no sense and didn't further their respective storylines whatsoever.

What is even more troubling about this new trend is the fact that WWE is putting out a lot of great content right now and have no need for this smutty content. In fact, between, Finn Balor versus Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan versus AJ Styles, the upcoming men and Women's Royal Rumble and Seth Rollin's white-hot babyface run, there is little need at all for this type of content.
With that being said and WWE seemingly committed to this new trend in order to keep older fans interested, here are five reasons why that is might not be a good idea. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us if you think WWE should continue with this type of content or not.
#5 Bad message to young fans
The WWE has spent years trying to convince fans, especially young children, that the women's division matters again and they have largely been successful in that goal. With that being said and the company now on the cusp of the first ever all women's main event, why would they ruin that by sending a mixed message to the kids?
If nothing else, WWE spent so much time trying to get everyone to respect these women as athletes and now the company just focuses on their looks? That makes no sense and sends a bad message to the children that are watching. It also could cause them to attach their value to their looks which would also be bad.
In the end, these women athletes are warriors and should be showcased as such. Not as a home wrecker or a woman that is the victim of an awkward walk in. In all honesty, these women deserve more respect than this and WWE knows that!
#4 Subpar writing
Does anyone else feel like WWE doesn't know how to write mature content? Maybe that just has to do with the corner they are definitely stuck in due to the women's revolution right now, but everything they have produced so far hasn't really been television worthy. Beyond that, it served no purpose furthered no storyline and didn't even need to happen.
With that being said, there's nothing wrong with WWE being bad at writing this kind of content, especially since it shouldn't be written to start with and WWE should focus their efforts on something else. At least that way, WWE can get eyeballs on the product for something positive and not just to see women get semi-topless.
In the end, this isn't the right kind of content for WWE to do and they don't really seem to have the talent to do it anymore anyway. Again, maybe things would be different if they weren't so restricted with the women's revolution right now, but if the last two weeks of content is any indicator of what they are capable of they might want to put their racier stuff to rest.
#3 Doesn't benefit the product
Admit it!
Besides putting temporary eyeballs on the product, there is absolutely no purpose to doing this kind of mature content. Of course, some fans will probably claim that more people watching, even temporarily is a good thing, but not if it's only a small minority of the overall show!
Beyond that, the segments they have done already barely make sense and don't do much to further storylines. While Naomi versus Mandy Rose might be a slight exception to that, the implication of Mandy Rose wanting to be a homewrecker is a very negative connotation that is going to hurt her later on.
Sure, she's already admitted that she is just doing it to get back at Naomi, but WWE is having their fun with it in the meantime and it's making Rose appear very shallow. If nothing else, this isn't the kind of character WWE should have envisioned with a star like Rose and should be doing better things with her.
In the end, these segments benefit nothing and further nothing. They ultimately seem to just exist and serve no purpose beyond that. Again, some might claim that temporary eyeballs can become permanent eyeballs, but not if they are expecting every segment involving women to be them taking their clothes off.
#2 Could scare sponsors away
What is WWE thinking?
The company has spent years toeing the line between a family friendly product and engaging entertainment for older fans, so why would they start doing more racy content now? Maybe it has to do with the fact that WWE just rang in the new era a few months ago and are trying to get older fans interested in watching again, but what does that mean for potential advertisers?
While WWE seems more interested in pleasing their fans right now, which is a great thing for anyone that has endured the last couple of months of lackluster booking, it should not come at the expense of potential advertisers. With that being said and WWE toning down their content in the past due to sponsors, one can only imagine that it will happen again.
In the end, WWE to be proactive and get away from this kind of content as soon as possible. If not, however, they risk turning off current and potential sponsors, which could hurt their overall bottom line later.
#1 Counter productive to the women's revolution
Tell me if this makes sense.
WWE spends years and years trying to convince The WWE Universe that the women's division deserves to be respected and that the women are just as good as the men, but continue to trout out this mature content. Not only is it completely out of place in the current landscape of women's wrestling, but it also makes the women involved look bad.
Of course, this isn't exactly WWE's fault and they are most likely only trying to get older fans interested in the product again, but they are going about it the wrong way! In fact, if WWE really wants to attract eyeballs to the product and utilize the women's division to do so, why not focus on first-time matchups and intensifying rivalries.
WWE has already done this with Sasha Banks versus Ronda Rousey which will take place at the Royal Rumble and there are quite a few other dream matches WWE could pull out as well. If nothing else, WWE trying to attract teens and adults with smutty content isn't going to work. What will work however is giving fans a reason to watch the division without demeaning them.
