Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett may make a comeback after a hiatus of almost 8 years if Pat McAfee can rejoin the Stamford-based promotion as a commentator.
McAfee left WWE after obtaining a job with ESPN's College GameDay, but he did make a few surprise appearances this year. According to a new statement made by McAfee on his official X/Twitter account, he has not entered into a new agreement with College Gameday.
As a result, he might return to the commentary team next year and take over Wade Barrett's position. Barrett joined the team after McAfee left. Could Barrett make an in-ring comeback once Pat returns to the announcer's table?

Barrett last wrestled for WWE in 2016. While he is currently content with his role as a commentator, he is open to the possibility of resuming his in-ring career.
During an interview with Matty Paddock from the Daily Star, Wade was questioned regarding the possibility of resuming his career. This is what he had to say:
'I’m not ruling it out – maybe one day it will happen. I’d be surprised if I ever got to a point where I wanted to do it full-time a Sheamus or a Drew is still doing it. But on a part-time basis or a spot match, if the storyline made sense, it’s not something I’d rule out. In terms of my future within the industry, I 100% see it in commentary. I am probably having more fun now in my current role than I ever have at any point in my career, from the independent scene [to] the main roster of WWE and main eventing shows like SummerSlam and Survivor Series in 2010,"
Barrett joined WWE in 2007 and quickly rose to prominence as the head of the Nexus faction. He won five Intercontinental Championships, an impressive achievement that many professional wrestlers strive for. It remains to be seen if Barrett will make a comeback.
The Nexus used to be a great WWE faction
The unexpected appearance of the Nexus on Monday Night Raw in 2010 marked an extraordinary takeover comparable to the NWO in WCW. A group of eight young talents emerged as the most formidable group within the WWE, asserting dominance over the roster with their intimidating presence.
Unfortunately, the band disbanded in mid-2010 due to a string of bad decisions made by the creative team. Even though the group contained a lot of promising young talent, only Daniel Bryan managed to win the World Championship.
In stark contrast, The Shield turned out much better, with all three members going to attain unprecedented success.
