WWE Royal Rumble will take place on February 1, 2025, at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The 30-men Battle Royal might see some legends return and entertain the fans. The event, however, can also see former SmackDown Tag Team Champions reunite.
Who are they? They are the father-son duo Dominik and Rey Mysterio. The two have been loggerheads since Dom turned on his father in 2022 and joined The Judgment Day. However, there have been speculations that Dominik might realize his folly and reconcile with Rey as things aren't looking good for him in The Judgment Day.
Finn Balor and JD McDonagh aren't pleased with Dominik's ambitions, and on numerous occasions, Balor has demeaned him. Dominik's babyface turn is also speculated, as he might feud with Finn Balor any day.
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
So, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh may try to eliminate Dominik at Royal Rumble, as they don't seem content with his aspirations to become a WWE Champion. Rey Mysterio may then come out to save his son. The two might then eliminate Balor and McDonagh from the Rumble match.
That will also set a second run of Dom and Rey's partnership in WWE. The duo could be booked against Balor and JD McDonagh at WrestleMania 41. This could probably be the last WrestleMania for Rey Mysterio, and the 50-year-old superstar might hang up his boots in 2025.
WWE analyst says Rey Mysterio's last match could take place in Mexico City
According to WWE analyst Peter Rosenberg, Rey Mysterio's last match in the Stamford-based promotion may take place in Mexico City.
"I mean, what about Mexico City? I mean, when you think about the amount of superstars of Mexican heritage and the impact that Mexican people have had on many fields, particularly this [professional wrestling] field. It's just so deep. To me, I would absolutely love to go to a huge event in Mexico City. Maybe it's like Rey Mysterio's last match or whatever it might be," Rosenberg said.
The Master of 619 has won the WWE Championship once and the World Heavyweight Championship twice. He has already made back-to-back appearances at WrestleMania 39 and 40.
He feuded with his son Dominik at WrestleMania 39 and later fought against Dominik and Santos Escobar by aligning with Andrade at WrestleMania 40. Thereby, at WrestleMania 41, a tag team match with his son would be a fine way to wrap up his story. Later, the company can book his final match in Mexico in a Premium Live Event where Mysterio can thank his fans.
