WWE and TNA's working relationship has been an absolute delight to watch this year. Over the past few months, stars from both promotions have been involved in a successful crossover. TNA has also seen the return of ex-WWE Superstars like Matt and Jeff Hardy.

Similarly, the promotion can witness another former WWE Champion join their ranks. On July 20, TNA is set to host its biggest event of the year, Slammiversary. And this event could witness the return of former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar, Jinder Mahal.

On April 19, it was announced Mahal wouldn't be a part of WWE going forward. While the 37-year-old did have a non-compete clause in his contract with the Stamford-based company, the period mentioned in the said clause has come to an end, and he is now free to sign with any promotion. Hence, there is a possibility Mahal could show up at TNA Slammiversary.

Apart from this, another reason why Mahal could arrive at TNA Slammiversary is because the event is going to take place in Canada. While Mahal currently lives in Tampa, Florida, he is a Canadian citizen, and having him on the card would serve the promotion in good stead.

Signing with TNA would also be beneficial for Mahal because, in comparison to WWE, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has promoted wrestlers of Indian descent better. From Mahabali Shera to Bhupinder Gujjar, the projection of such talent with Indian roots has been significantly better in the Nashville-based promotion.

So, it's only obvious that Jinder Mahal is likely to get good exposure in TNA. Along with this reason, if Mahal signs with the promotion, he will also have the opportunity to work with other independent promotions, and this could be a major boost for his career. Therefore, it makes sense for him to move to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Jinder Mahal narrated the story of how he lost the WWE Championship

At Backlash 2017, wrestling fans witnessed an unbelievable moment when Jinder Mahal became the WWE Champion by beating Randy Orton. After defeating The Viper, The Modern Day Maharaja defended his title on five occasions and had a 170-day reign as champion.

Mahal's run as champion ended on the 7 November 2017 episode of SmackDown when he dropped the title to AJ Styles. During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Mahal narrated the story of how he found out that he was going to be dropping the title to The Phenomenal One on the day of the show, just the same way he had found out he was winning the title a few months earlier.

"I didn't know that I was losing the championship until the day of. We were in Manchester and we have the title match. We get to the building. Michael Hayes tells me and AJ, 'Go talk to Vince' and send us to Vince's office. Vince tells me, 'You're dropping the championship. Now you're going to chase it.' 'AJ, you're winning it tonight, you'll work with Brock at Survivor Series.' Then me and AJ at Night of Champions, one more championship match. And that was it. Yeah, I found out on the same day I'm winning it. Lost it the same way, found out the same day," he said.

After dropping this title, Jinder Mahal was never able to win another world championship. However, he did have an eight-day reign as United States Champion and even won the 24/7 Championship on two occasions.
