A former champion has made a bold claim about WWE's current women's division.
Piper Niven and Chelsea Green are the reigning Women's Tag Team Champions, but the titles have barely been defended as of late. Green initially won the titles with Sonya Deville on the July 17 episode of WWE RAW, but their reign was short-lived as Deville suffered a torn ACL and will be out of action for several more months.
Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez also had one of their title reigns end due to injury. Morgan suffered a shoulder injury during a title defense on the May 12 edition of SmackDown, and Dakota Kai also tore her ACL during the same match. Liv and Rodriguez won the titles back at Money in the Bank on July 1, only to drop the titles to Deville and Green 16 days later on WWE RAW.
In a recent interview with The Dallas Morning News, Raquel Rodriguez admitted that the women's tag team division might be a little cursed. Rodriguez added that she wants the Women's Tag Team Championship to be on the same level as any other title on the roster.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
“[Laughs] Oh my gosh. You know, I don’t like to be too superstitious. But yeah, I do. I do think there is a little bit of a curse on the women’s tag team division. Liv [Morgan] and I, from the very beginning when we started tagging together, we told each other that this was something we wanted to build up. We wanted to make the women’s tag team titles something as important. They should be on the same level, on the same pedestal as the World Women’s Championship, as any championship really on the WWE roster, even the men’s ones," said Raquel Rodriguez. [H/T: WrestleZone]
Raquel Rodriguez reveals she misses absent WWE star
Raquel Rodriguez recently disclosed that she misses her former tag team partner, Liv Morgan.
During her interview with The Dallas Morning News, Raquel Rodriguez noted that Liv Morgan is anxious to return to WWE and misses her tag team partner. Rodriguez stated that she doesn't have an exact date for Morgan's return but claimed it could be "before any of us can really imagine."
“Yeah, I’ve talked to Liv. She’s doing great. She’s really recovering well. She’s in very good spirits, and of course, she’s very, very anxious to come back. I don’t have a specific date of when she’ll be back. We’re all waiting for her. I know, I miss her terribly. So I’m very excited for that. But I feel like time has been flying, and she’s just been on it, on her recovery. So I would assume she’d be back sooner rather than later. And probably before any of us can really imagine," said Raquel Rodriguez. [H/T: Dallas Morning News]
The women's tag team division in WWE remains incredibly talented, but the titles appear to have become an afterthought in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see when Chelsea Green and Piper Niven defend the Women's Tag Team Championship next on WWE television.
