A former WWE Champion may retire on Monday Night RAW's debut episode on Netflix on January 6. The superstar is Big E, a former member of The New Day group. The 38-year-old wrestler has been out of action for over two and a half years now, after suffering a serious neck injury in March 2022.
He recently showed up on New Day's 10th anniversary celebrations on the December 2 episode of RAW. However, his mates Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned their backs on him, turning heel in the process.
Moreover, Big E's retirement looked imminent as he had recently revealed that he hadn't been medically cleared and would see if he could return to WWE. And now, some new reports have hinted that he may finally announce his decision to hang up his boots next year on RAW's first episode on the streaming giant.
However, that doesn't mean that the former WWE Champion will disappear from WWE TV. Big E has been given a new role which would be hosting Monday Night RAW's classics on Netflix. The streaming giant has announced several projects that will be featured on it's streaming service.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Big E has been hosting kick-off shows before premium live events after his injury. So, while he may retire from in-ring competition, WWE CCO Triple H might retain him for the special show on Netflix. Secondly, retirements in WWE can always be taken back.
The WWE Universe has seen the likes of superstars like Adam Copeland (fka Edge), Byran Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan), and Stone Cold Steve Austin come out of their retirements to compete once again. Big E too can make a comeback if and when he is medically cleared.
Big E speaks on his potential retirement from WWE
The former New Day member was recently asked by Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely over his potential retirement from wrestling. He replied that he doesn't have a cut-off date in his mind about his retirement and instead said that he has been content in his life, even after getting that injury.
“Instead of focusing on all the things that are lost or the things I can’t do, or not being in the ring anymore, I focus on the things that I do have. I’m so blessed, I’m so fortunate. One, I’m not in pain. I move around well, I’m in the gym, I live a great life. You don’t have to pity me; you don’t have to feel bad for me at all. I’ve got so many incredible things," Big E said. He also said that he was surprised after seeing the support from the WWE fans, even after more than a year of not wrestling. He remarked that he didn't have any regrets about anything in life. It now remains to be seen if the two-time Intercontinental Champion will announce his retirement on January 6, 2024.
