In case you didn't know...
Alberto Del Rio, known outside WWE as Alberto El Patron was supposed to team alongside Pentagon Jr against the team of Austin Aries and Fenix. He was supposed to participate in this match ahead of facing Austin Aries in the main event of the Redemption pay-per-view which is set to take place at the end of the month.
He did not show up for the Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground show which took place during WrestleMania weekend. Due to his absence, the match was changed to a Triple Threat between the three competitors.
The heart of the matter
Soon after no-showing the Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground show, the former WWE Superstar was released by Impact Wrestling. It is not clear whether it was his absence that was the reason for the release or whether there was some other issue. The reason for his absence from the show has not been revealed.
According to PW Insider, Alberto El Patron was tied to Impact Wrestling with a contract until April 21st, so it is possible that Del Rio will not be able to wrestle elsewhere because of a non-compete clause.
According to the report by CageSideSeats, the former WWE Star was reportedly discussing a one-year contract extension with Impact Wrestling, which involved a pay-rise, before their relationship fell apart this weekend.
What's next?
Alberto Del Rio is yet to break media silence since he was released from Impact Wrestling.
