From the WWE Rumor Mill: Jim Ross to be the lead commentator for WWE Women's Tournament

Jim Ross has recently signed a 2-year deal with the WWE.

What’s the story?

According to Cageside Seats, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is set to be back ringside for commentary work. Ross is rumoured to be the lead commentator for the company’s upcoming Women’s Tournament that will air on the WWE Network very soon.

In case you didn’t know...

Ross left the WWE in 2013 after a controversy at an announcement panel for WWE 2k14. He has since commentated for several big promotions including New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Ross has also done commentary work for boxing events and one MMA pay-per-view since leaving WWE. He has also worked on several WhatCulture Pro Wrestling events and iPPVs.

Ross is regarded as the greatest wrestling commentator of all time. He was specially brought in by the WWE to commentate the Undertaker’s final match at the main event of this year’s WrestleMania against Roman Reigns.

Soon after WrestleMania, it was revealed that Ross had signed a new two-year deal with the WWE.

The heart of the matter

Rumours suggest that JR will indeed call the matches for the Women’s Tournament that is expected to start taping in July. The tournament is said to be bigger in comparison to the CruiserWeight Classic and the United Kingdom Tournament.

Ross’s contribution to the tournament as the lead commentator is bound to attract viewers and an increase in the Network’s subscription rates. This move can also elevate the prestige and popularity of the Women’s tournament.

What’s next?

There are no confirmed plans for Ross’s future work with the company. The taping for the Women’s Tournament is rumoured to be set for July 13 and 14 at Full Sail University.

Author’s Take

Jim Ross is undoubtedly the most popular and beloved commentator of all time. His voice has made countless moments in WWE history, legendary and iconic. His contribution to the Women’s Tournament will make the event feel more important.

However, WWE should be wise in choosing his commentary partner for this event. My personal choice would be Renee Young or Corey Graves.
