What's the story?

There was an angle at last night's WWE Live Event in MSG where Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn double-teamed him and attacked his leg with chairs. Styles was then helped to the back by officials. This was a probably a work.

In case you didn't know...

WWE returned to their spiritual home Madison Square Garden, last night for a Live Event that featured Brock Lesnar and John Cena on the card. Styles was supposed to open the show opposing Owens and Zayn but the attack led the match to become a one on one between Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura.

The heart of the matter

AJ Styles was attacked by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn after the duo blindsided the WWE Champion. They then hit Styles with multiple chairshots to the leg. The referee then reportedly help up the 'X'.

Styles was then led to the back. After Sami Zayn interrupted the match between Nakamura and Owens, Styles limped back out to rescue Nakamura.

What's next?

There have been no further updates as of now and no official word from WWE regarding the matter. We will have to wait for updates.

Author's take

WWE usually don't do injury angles at Live Events and the ref holding up the 'X' is something that they wouldn't try to work fans around.

It looks like Styles was either injured by a stray chairshot or he came in with a nagging injury and this angle was meant to limit his time in the ring.
