What’s the story?
According to bookmakers, UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is apparently on the verge of making a WWE appearance as bookies suggest that “The Notorious One” has a 7/4 chance of appearing at Wrestlemania 34, next month in New Orleans.
In case you didn’t know…
Current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor last competed in the Octagon back in the year 2016 at UFC 205 at the Madison Square Garden, New York, when he defeated Eddie Alvarez in order to capture the 155-pound title.
McGregor, who is also a former UFC Featherweight Champion and the first ever man to hold two division titles, is yet to compete in the Octagon (And defend his Lightweight belt for that matter) ever since picking up his historic win over Alvarez almost two years ago.
However, despite being inactive inside the MMA Cage, McGregor has certainly been making headlines outside of it and as noted, the 29-year-old superstar also made his Boxing debut last year, when he squared-off against Floyd Mayweather in one of the most historic Pro Boxing matches of all time.
The heart of the matter
According to Oddschecker, one of UFC’s most prolific stars and current Lightweight Champion of the company Conor McGregor now has a 7/4 chance of appearing at WWE’s showcase event and the promotion’s biggest show of the year, WrestleMania 34—and surprisingly enough Oddschecker is the exact same bookmakers that gave Manchester City a chance of winning the Premier League this season.
In addition, Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek has evidently claimed that one of the more vocal celebrities rumored to be in attendance at WrestleMania 34 is “The Notorious” Conor McGregor and if the bookies are correct, then the current UFC Lightweight Champion could very well appear at ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’.
“As with any WrestleMania, one of the biggest talking points is what celebrities and sports stars will turn up on the night. One of the more vocal celebrities rumored to be in attendance is the Notorious Conor McGregor – and if bookies are correct – he could well be appearing on the Grandest Stage of Them All.”
What’s next?
Over the course of the past few years, Conor McGregor has been heavily linked with a move to the WWE and in a recent interview, 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena claimed that McGregor will certainly be a huge addition to the current WWE roster.
However, that being said, McGregor is currently eyeing towards a return to the Octagon later this year and is also rumored to compete in two MMA fights.
Author’s Take
With the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Nate Diaz, and Tony Ferguson all lined up in the UFC 155-pound division, I believe, that McGregor will indeed return to the Octagon later this year.
