What’s the story?
In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, pro wrestling expert Dave Meltzer claimed that the current WrestleMania 34 plan for WWE Smackdown Live superstars Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn is to compete at this year’s Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
In case you didn’t know…
The notorious duo of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has been at the peak of their game for the past several months over on the blue brand of Smackdown Live. The two men have constantly been a part of the main event scene on Smackdown Live and have been engaged in an intense feud with Smackdown commissioner Shane McMahon.
The heart of the matter
For the past few weeks, there have been several rumors flooding on the internet that suggested towards the possibility of a one-on-one match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at this year’s WrestleMania.
However, it looks like those scheduled plans have apparently been scrapped by the WWE creative, who are now instead, looking to put both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle royal, as per claimed by The Observer’s Dave Meltzer.
There is now a very strong possibility of both Owens and Zayn competing in the WrestleMania 34 pre-show, instead of taking part in a high profile match at The Grandest Stage of Them All, later this year in New Orleans, Louisiana.
What’s next?
Both Owens and Zayn are set to compete at this Sunday’s Fastlane main event, which is a six-pack challenge for the WWE Championship featuring Baron Corbin, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and current WWE Champion AJ Styles.
Author’s Take
Personally, I think that both Owens and Zayn deserve a higher spot on the WrestleMania card instead of just being thrown in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Both men have been doing ridiculously well on Smackdown Live and Sami Zayn, especially, has elevated his character to the next level.
