What’s the story?
Rey Mysterio was rumored to be in talks with WWE to bring the former WWE superstar back to the company, but his injury this past weekend caused many to doubt whether the talks were still on the table.
Despite the injury, Mysterio and WWE are still scheduled to meet and try to schedule a deal soon.
In case you didn’t know
Mysterio was believed to have suffered a torn bicep on Friday March 2 while teaming with Flip Gordon against Joey Mercury and Caleb Konley in Waterbury, Connecticut for Northeast Wrestling.
The specifics of the injury were not clear, but people in attendance said that his arm was swollen, leading many to believe the injury may have been severe.
The heart of the matter
People who’ve spoken to Mysterio believe that his bicep tear was only a partial, which could suggest that the injury might not affect any of his Mysterio’s long-term plans according to PWInsider.
A complete bicep tear would require surgery and could take four to six months to recover, but a partial tear would only require three to six weeks to heal according to core performance.
Mysterio’s expected to face Jushin Thunder Liger three weeks from now at NJPW Strong Style Evolved in Long Beach, California and that match could still occur.
Wrestling on an arm with a torn bicep has been done before but would only further the damage to the injured arm.
If Mysterio isn’t fully healed and decides to wrestle Liger on the show, it may be his only match for the foreseeable future barring any desire from Mysterio to complete any obligations he has with other wrestling promotions.
What’s next?
Mysterio has been silent on social media regarding his rumored injury but the former World Heavyweight Champion and NJPW would be expected to make an announcement if he wasn't able to make it.
Author’s take
Wishing Mysterio a speedy recovery. Many are looking forward to his upcoming match with Liger as well as an eventual return to WWE, so hopefully Mysterio’s doing better.
