What's the story?
Reports surrounding Rey Mysterio over the past few months seemingly stated that Mysterio was the owner of Nashville based wrestling-promotion Aro Lucha, which meant that he was no longer negotiating a move back to WWE, but it seems that these reports may have been blown out of proportion.
In case you didn't know...
Mysterio returned to WWE back at the Royal Rumble in January and, it seems that he has been negotiating a deal to return to the company full-time over the past few months. There have been a number of issues with Mysterio and his new WWE contract since it seems that he isn't open to working the same kind of contract he had before, which was exactly what WWE had planned.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Mysterio has continued to work for a number of other companies since his surprise return in The Royal Rumble, but he is yet to make another WWE appearance or even hint towards it.
The heart of the matter
Dave Meltzer addressed the rumors that Mysterio had become an owner of Aro Lucha and that he wasn't returning to WWE on the most recent episode of The Wrestling Observer. (Transcript via Ringsidenews).
“He’s still in negotiations with WWE. I can tell you that factually right now. He’s in negotiations with WWE. He will be working Aro Lucha. I think he’s pretty much committed to working Aro Lucha tapings. He may stay with them. He may end up with ownership. He’s not an owner of the company right now. The idea of this, a lot of people look at this and go, “oh he’s not going to WWE.” He may not, but he’s absolutely in talks with them right now. Whatever the story is that broke today, that does not change that story.”
It seems that Mysterio could still be set to return to WWE in the near future if he is able to negotiate the contract that he feels he needs to have with the company.
What's next?
Mysterio is going to work with Aro Lucha, but it seems that it could just be a few tapings, it is unknown how long this will last for or how it will impact on his pending return to the WWE.
Author's take
Mysterio is still in fantastic shape and was one of the stars who stole all the headlines at the Royal Rumble. WWE could definitely boost their ranks if they are able to convince the former World Champion to return and should probably continue to negotiate regardless.
The former Champion has been ever present on the Independent Circuit over the past few years, but hopefully, injuries won't plague his career as much as they once did, if he is able to make a return.
