What's the story?
Reports have surfaced suggesting that former WWE World Champion Rey Mysterio was backstage at WWE's WrestleMania 34 amidst speculation about his future with the WWE and NJPW.
In case you didn't know...
The legendary Mexican wrestler last made his appearance for WWE during their Royal Rumble event in January as one of the show's customary surprise entrants, and he received a rapturous ovation.

The heart of the matter
Following his Rumble appearance, there was speculation that Mysterio would sign a deal with WWE that was similar to Chris Jericho's, allowing him to pick and choose when he works and also allowing him to work for other promotions.
Mysterio's WWE status was then thrown up in the air when he was announced as facing Jushin 'Thunder' Liger at a New Japan Pro Wrestling show but was injured, instead of cutting a promo about how he'd like to wrestle Liger, Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll before Scurll attacked him and took his mask.
This led people to believe that Mysterio wouldn't be involved in 'Mania, despite initial rumors suggesting he might wrestle against John Cena, however, reports from PWInsider.com have surfaced suggesting that Mysterio was indeed backstage at the event, although was obviously not used during the show.
What's next?
This could mean that Mysterio is still in the middle of negotiations with Triple H and WWE about working with WWE on a more regular basis or he could just have been visiting friends. But there's a chance that maybe, just maybe, Mysterio is already on his way back.
Author's take
Anyone not excited to a see Mysterio back in WWE needs to have a good long rethink about their priorities, he looked great during the Rumble and the number of amazing matches we could see between him and some of the new WWE Superstars that weren't around when he was is high.
