What’s the story?
As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE free agent John Cena is set to return on Monday Night RAW’s Christmas edition later this month.
Per the vast majority of professional wrestling industry rumours, the WWE has planned a title match for Cena upon his return to RAW on December 25th.
In case you didn’t know…
As of late, John Cena has transitioned into a part-time schedule as an in-ring performer for the WWE in light of his blossoming Hollywood career.
However, unlike most other part-time Superstars, Cena will surprise the WWE Universe by competing as often as possible despite his busy Hollywood schedule. John Cena last competed at WWE’s Survivor Series pay-per-view in a losing effort as part of Team SmackDown. The leader of the Cenation hasn’t performed in the WWE since, as he’s been busy with his other obligations.
The heart of the matter
Nevertheless, WWE is advertising Cena for the December 25th special episode of Monday Night RAW which in turn has gotten fans speculating as to who he’ll face upon his return to the Red Brand.
In reference to the same, industry experts believe Cena will challenge Roman Reigns for his WWE Intercontinental Championship at the Christmas edition of RAW. The aforementioned theory has been further validated since the WWE is advertising John Cena vs. Roman Reigns for a few RAW-brand live events on the WWE’s annual holiday tour.
While the IC Title match between Cena and Reigns on RAW’s Christmas edition remains to be confirmed by WWE, the company has advertised Cena will compete in a triple threat match against Jinder Mahal and WWE Champion AJ Styles at the SmackDown Live house show on December 30th.
What’s next?
John Cena will return on the December 25th episode of Monday Night RAW and could compete in an Intercontinental Championship match against Roman Reigns at the show.
Fans will also be able to catch Cena competing against Reigns during the WWE holiday tour RAW live events, apart from the Triple Threat match at a SmackDown house show against Mahal and Styles on December 30th.
Author’s take
To say John Cena is a workhorse would be a severe understatement.
The man has done it all in the world of professional wrestling, and keeps pushing the envelope nonetheless…now having added Hollywood to his goals as well.
It’ll be interesting to see how Cena approaches a potential IC Title matchup with Reigns having suffered an important loss to the Big Dog at No Mercy earlier this year.
