What’s the story?
On a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer evidently reported that former WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate is currently sidelined due to a minor knee injury, which he suffered very recently.
In case you didn’t know…
Tyler Bate made his WWE debut in 2016 when he took part in the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament, which was eventually won by the UK native. In doing so, he became the second teenager (At 19 years of age) in WWE history to win a title, and the second youngest champion of all time, after René Duprée.

Bate, who is a former two-time PROGRESS Wrestling Tag Team Champion, has also been recently competing on WWE’s 205 Live Cruiserweight Division, where he has already faced off against the likes of former Cruiserweight Champions Enzo Amore and TJP.
The heart of the matter
As noted, the initial plan for Tyler Bate was to take part in the on-going WWE NXT: Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament, along with his tag team partner and British Strong Style stablemate Trent Seven. However, the former PROGRESS Tag Team Champion was recently pulled out from the tournament without any sort explanation.
Seven and Bate were apparently scheduled to square off against the duo of Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in the first round of the tournament, but the team was replaced by the newly formed tag team of current WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne (Who is also the third member of the British Strong Style) and Roderick Strong.
However, despite WWE not providing us with any sort of clarification regarding the bizarre situation surrounding Bate and Seven, the current belief is that the definite cause for the Moustache Mountain pulling out of the Dusty Classic 2018 is due to Tyler Bate recently suffering a minor knee injury. As per stated by Dave Meltzer, Bate’s knee injury is also the reason why he and Trent Seven were forced to pull out from the on-going Dusty Classic Tag Team Tournament.
What’s next?
The finals of the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will take place on the 7th of April in New Orleans at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. And, as far as Tyler Bate’s injury goes, we promise to keep us updated regarding the former WWE UK Champion’s injury.
Author’s Take
With WrestleMania season lurking around the corner, I think that Tyler Bate’s injury came at a very unfortunate time and the fact that the Moustache Mountain, in my opinion, was also one of the biggest favorites to win the entire Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2018.
