What's the story?

Dolph Ziggler won the United States Championship this past Sunday at Clash of Champions pay-per-view. On Tuesday's WWE SmackDown, he seemed to relinquish the title in front of the fans, as he laid it on the ring floor and left the ring.

There has been speculation regarding the future of the United States Championship and Dolph Ziggler, following this angle. According to PW Insider, Ziggler is set to follow through on this storyline by staying off-television for the next few episodes of SmackDown Live.

In case you didn't know...

Ziggler's career has not been the most consistent due to on and off pushes by WWE. Recently, The Showoff was involved in a feud with Bobby Roode, in which he lost to the 'Glorious One'.

Following his loss against Roode, he became involved in a Triple Threat match for the United States Championship against Roode and Baron Corbin at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view, where he surprised everyone by winning the Championship.

On Tuesday's SmackDown Live, he called out the crowd for not showing him support and told them that they did not deserve his presence, before leaving the ring without his Championship belt.

The heart of the matter

There has been speculation about Ziggler relinquishing the title after leaving it lying in the middle of the ring on SmackDown Live.

According to reports by PW Insider, Ziggler is set to stay off WWE programming for the next few weeks to continue the storyline.

What's next?

Ziggler will be absent from SmackDown Live tapings, but continue to work in the Live Events.

Author's take

Ziggler leaving WWE is a rumour that has been doing the rounds for a long time. Given his on and off push and inconsistent booking, he has reason to be dissatisfied with how he has been used by the company.

This angle seems to be an interesting one, and it will be intriguing to see how WWE book the coming shows.
