#1 AJ Styles retains the WWE Championship
Rusev shocked the world when he became the No 1 contender for AJ Styles' WWE Championship at Extreme Rules. Rusev won a No-1 contenders gauntlet match on the post money in the bank episode of SmackDown Live and earned the right to face Styles for the title.
This move appeared a surprise for the WWE universe as no one expected Rusev to pick up the win in the gauntlet match. Rusev's sudden rise to the main event is like that of Jinder Mahal's last year.

However, Rusev might not win the title this Sunday as WWE might have other plans for the WWE Championship. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the local advertisement for the Hell in a Cell PPV which is set to take place at San Antonio on the 16th of September revealed AJ Styles taking on Samoa Joe in a Hell in a Cell match.
So we can expect Styles to defeat Rusev and walk out of Extreme Rules with the WWE Championship.
