Getting Ready to Rumble - 4 ways Finn Balor can defeat Brock Lesnar at the 2019 Royal Rumble

How can Finn Balor achieve the seemingly impossible?
How can Finn Balor achieve the seemingly impossible?

The 2019 WWE Royal Rumble just got a very, very interesting WWE Universal Championship match. Brock Lesnar, the reigning, defending, undisputed Universal Champion is set to defend his championship against none other than the first ever Universal Champion, Finn Balor.

We have already discussed why Finn Balor could defeat Brock Lesnar.

Now, we come to the 'how'.

Any way you look at it, Finn Balor versus Brock Lesnar is a massive, massive mismatch. Brock Lesnar is the hulking former UFC Heavyweight Champion. He is more bear than man. Finn Balor would not look out of place on 205 Live!

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Finn Balor has spent most of the last year treading water. Indeed, it can be argued that he has been treading water since he was forced to relinquish the Universal Championship due to injury. Brock Lesnar held the Universal Championship for 500+ days, lost it, and promptly regained it a few months later.

He has only been defeated by two men in the past two years, and has lost to only five men since returning to the WWE. Brock Lesnar's record completely outclasses Finn Balor's.

Finn Balor is known as 'The Extraordinary Man Who Does Extraordinary Things'. He will have to be every bit as extraordinary as that nickname suggests if he is to best Brock Lesnar.

But it can be done.

Let's find out how.

Brock Lesnar's WrestleMania Opponent Interferes

Someone else is coming for The Beast
Someone else is coming for The Beast

The simplest most obvious explanation is normally the correct one. Let us apply that reasoning over here. If Brock Lesnar, WWE's most protected Superstar, loses the Universal Championship before WrestleMania 35, to a replacement challenger with two weeks worth of build-up, the WWE has more important plans for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35. Plans that do not involve the Universal Championship.

The simplest most obvious way to get there is to have Brock Lesnar's non-championship WrestleMania opponent interfere in the match, and cost Lesnar the Universal Championship. There is past precedent for this type of booking with Lesnar; Bill Goldberg, his WrestleMania 20 opponent, cost him the WWE Championship at the 2004 Royal Rumble.

Finn Balor Becomes A Paul Heyman Guy

Ladies and Gentlemen....his name is PAUL HEYMAN
Ladies and Gentlemen....his name is PAUL HEYMAN

One criticism that has been levelled against Finn Balor is that he can be rather bland on the microphone. He is not a bad promo, in fact, he is rather a good promo. However, "rather good" doesn't cut it if you are to hold the top championship in the entire company.

That is where Paul Heyman comes in. Paul Heyman is the greatest manager of his generation. He is one of the greatest managers of all time. Nobody, and I mean nobody, sells a match better than Paul Heyman. It has been said that he could sell ice to an Eskimo, that is how good he is.

So, what if Finn Balor became a Paul Heyman guy? What if Paul Heyman betrayed Brock Lesnar, and cost him the Universal Championship, in order to ally himself with Finn Balor?

Finn Balor Wins Clean

The Demon slays The Beast
The Demon slays The Beast

There is a possibility that has been overlooked thus far; Finn Balor could defeat Brock Lesnar on his own.

It is a classic David versus Goliath story. AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan have both proven that a smaller wrestler can believably have Brock Lesnar reeling.

Finn Balor is likely to adopt the persona of 'The Demon'; his body-paint covered alter ego that taps into the darker, more vicious side of his personality. On the WWE main roster, 'The Demon' is undefeated.

Consider his list of accomplishments. 'The Demon' bested Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship with one good arm. 'The Demon' defeated AJ Styles, one of the most accomplished champions in the WWE.

'The Demon' absolutely obliterated Baron Corbin at SummerSlam last year. The WWE has established that 'The Demon' is nigh unbeatable.

If Finn Balor is to conquer Brock Lesnar, he will need something special. He will need a secret weapon. He will need 'The Demon'.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson Interfere

This would be.....Too Sweet
This would be.....Too Sweet

Finn Balor is going to be in the fight of his life against Brock Lesnar.

He could use all the help he can get. And friends help friends, right?

Luckily, Finn Balor has two very good friends in the WWE - the former RAW Tag Team Champions; Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

Their friendship is well known to fans who watch promotions other than the WWE; these three raised all sorts of hell as part of Bullet Club in NJPW. Their friendship is also well known to WWE fans; it has been alluded to multiple times, and they memorably teamed up on a few occasions.

What if Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson interfered, and helped Finn Balor defeat Brock Lesnar? That would be dare I say it, too sweet.

How do you think Finn Balor can defeat Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble? Agree with any of our reasons? Disagree? Let us know in the comments!
