Getting Ready To Rumble - Potential 2019 Royal Rumble Winners: The Rock

Finally, The Rock has returned to the Royal Rumble
Finally, The Rock has returned to the Royal Rumble

In this new series, we look at the chances of entrants in the 2019 Royal Rumble matches.

Last time, we assessed the chances of Curt Hawkins.

Hey, everybody technically has a chance, right?

This time, we assess the chances of an altogether more accomplished superstar. Or to put it in another way, one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time.

I speak of the jabroni beating, pie-eating, trail-blazing, eyebrow-raising people's champion, The Rock.

The Rock's list of accomplishments are too long to list, so I'll give you the gist. 10 World Championships. One Royal Rumble victory. 5 WrestleMania main events, and he was indubitably in the most iconic match at WrestleMania X8 when he defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan. He achieved all of this despite the fact that his full-time WWE run ended when he was only 31 years old.

Outside of the WWE, his autobiography debuted at number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list. He was the highest paid actor in the entire world in 2016. And he is a veritable blockbuster star. In fact, he is arguably the blockbuster star.

Everybody knows who The Rock is. Anyone who doesn't has certainly been, pardon the pun, living under a rock.

Despite all of his success, he comes across as one of the most humble and down to earth men in the world.

The Rock would be a fine choice to win the 2019 men's Royal Rumble match.

Let us delve into his chances.

The case for The Rock winning the 2019 Men's Royal Rumble match

Just bring it
Just bring it

This one is ridiculously easy.

It's The Rock, for crying out loud.

He is one of the most recognizable and beloved stars in the entire world. He broke through the wrestling bubble like nobody before him, or after him has been able to. He has his own little bubble. That's how much of a star he is. The Rock would instantly bring more eyes to the WWE than any other full-time or part-time wrestler ever could.

The Rock is also one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time. He has more charisma in his eye-brow than most wrestlers have in their entire body. Most wrestling fans absolutely adore him, and his victory would be met with widespread adulation.

It was also rumoured that The Rock was to win the Royal Rumble match in order to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania; so this was an idea that was at least seriously considered.

One must also consider his last WWE match; a highly entertaining six-second squash of Eric Rowan. It was highly entertaining, but it seems somehow wrong that that should be his final wrestling match.

The Rock is one of the greatest of all time. Surely he would like to have one final run, and go out having electrified the millions (and millions) of his fans one last time?

The case against The Rock winning the 2019 Men's Royal Rumble match

The Rock is a busy, busy man
The Rock is a busy, busy man

The Rock is arguably the blockbuster star in Hollywood. That means that everyone wants The Rock to be a part of their movie. Despite his absolutely insane schedule, despite his determination to make the most of every second in the day, the day only has 24 hours.

There is only so much that The Rock can do. Would The Rock have any time to spare for a WWE run amidst all of his filming commitments?

And, even if he could make the time, there is the cautionary tale of his last run. The Rock was injured in his WrestleMania 29 main event bout against John Cena. He was filming the movie 'Hercules' at that time.

Due to his injury, production of the movie was delayed by several weeks. It is likely that studio executives would discourage The Rock from wrestling any more matches whilst he is still under contract to them.

Who would he challenge at WrestleMania 35?

Can Lesnar go one on one with the Great One?
Can Lesnar go one on one with the Great One?

The Rock is a blockbuster phenomenon. Everything he touches turns to gold. His last two WWE matches were a massive pay-per-view success, drawing over a million buys each.

Brock Lesnar is a pay-per-view phenomenon and has drawn over a million buys on multiple occasions.

Lesnar is the despised heel champion that doesn't care about the fans. The Rock is the beloved people's champion, almost universally adored by fans.

The Rock is one of the greatest promos in WWE history; perhaps the greatest of all time. Paul Heyman is a genius on the mic; nobody sells an upcoming match quite like him. The duelling promos between The Rock and Paul Heyman alone are reason enough to make the match.

So what do you do if you're the WWE? You make the most high profile match you can; Lesnar versus The Rock. Legend versus Legend. Draw versus Draw.

The Rock is one of the few WWE superstars who can physically match up with Brock Lesnar. The man looks like a Greek God, and his muscles have muscles.

If The Rock wins the 2019 men's Royal Rumble, this the only match to make.

The Verdict: If The Rock really wants to come back for one final run, he will win this match.
