What's the story?

Ed Nordholm, Executive Vice President of Anthem Sports and Entertainment, had a lot to say about the GFW Network when he appeared on the Wrestling Observer Radio.

He stated that the plans for GFW Network are to publish content of not only Impact but also AAA, NOAH and other wrestling promotions who they can persuade.

In case you didn't know...

GFW had announced recently that it would be launching its own network which would contain videos of all the past Impact episodes as well as other features.

There have been numerous rumours of GFW and Anthem falling out, with Anthem 'haemorrhaging funds' and while this does not put those rumours to rest at all, it does seem that Anthem is not leaving immediately.

GFW has been at the centre of more than its fair share of controversy recently, with rumours of Jeff Jarrett leaving due to 'erratic behaviour'.

The heart of the matter

Ed Nordholm spoke out about the GFW Network on Wrestling Observer Radio. He said that he would not be selling the tape library to WWE, as he was sure that he could make more off it by monetizing it by themselves on their new network.

The Global Wrestling Network may contain more content than just GFW's, as Nordholm revealed that they are working on bringing in their partners as well, and possibly adding the content from companies like AAA, NOAH and other companies that they can convince.

"It's not branded an Impact app. We want it to be a generic place for AAA, NOAH, if we can persuade New Japan or anybody. We'll have a plan, an efficient place for an aggregation of wrestling content that isn't related to WWE."

That's not all that Nordholm had to say about GFW. He also stated that Anthem had not given up on the company and all the rumours were untrue.

"We're invested in this company. We're growing it. We know it's not going to turn around tomorrow."

What's next?

The Global Wrestling Network has its initial release scheduled for next week, and they will have two separate versions rolling out on Android and IOS.

One will be a free version, while the other is a paid version, costing $7.99. The paid version will have a 30-day trial period after which the user can purchase it.

Author's take

While the idea of a collection of all the wrestling content out there other than WWE in one place seems like a brilliant idea, it remains to be seen if GFW can execute it.

The other promotions will need to be convinced that it is a good idea for them to join the network and that may take some convincing.
