Earlier this year, WCW Legend Goldberg announced he would be making his WWE return for a retirement match. The 58-year-old professional wrestler made the revelation after an altercation with the current World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at Bad Blood. Since then, many fans have speculated that the veteran will face The Ring General in his final WWE match.
While a match between these two would be pleasing to see, there is a chance Goldberg could team up with a WWE legend for his retirement match. The man whom he could team up with is John Cena. It's worth noting that Cena too will return in 2025 for his retirement tour.
Next year, WWE could present an angle in which Goldberg could return to confront Gunther. However, things could go south for the former as Ludwig Kaiser could interfere in the segment, and together with Gunther, he launches a brutal attack on the former World Champion.
When fans begin to think that Goldberg is done and dusted, Cena could make an appearance and help the former fight Imperium. This appearance could lead to the two legendary wrestlers teaming up against Imperium at a PLE, thus bringing down the curtains on Goldberg's career.
While the angle mentioned is speculative, it would be ideal as Goldberg could be booked to win in such a scenario. Also, losing a tag team match like that would not hurt Gunthers' brand, and will help maintain his credibility as the World Heavyweight Champion.
Major update provided on Goldberg's return to WWE
As mentioned above, ever since Goldberg announced he would be returning to WWE in 2025, fans have been gearing up to find out who he will face in his retirement match. While there is no official update about Goldberg's opponent, a recent report highlighted the number of matches he could have when he returns next year.
During a Live Q&A session on Backstage Pass, WrestleVotes spoke in detail about Goldberg's in-ring future in 2025. As per WrestleVotes, the legend will wrestle a couple of matches when he returns, but he won't be winning a World Title, and he also won't be winning at a Major PLE.
The report stated:
"Yeah, Goldberg's for sure wrestling at least one, probably two matches in 2025. No, I can almost bet he won't be winning a title, He won't be winning the Royal Rumble, he won't be winning the Elimination Chamber."
Based on what happened at Bad Blood, Gunther remains a favorite to face Goldberg in his retirement match. However, it will be interesting to see if Triple H has other plans for the latter when he makes his return to the Stamford-based promotion.
