WWE Saturday Night's Main Event will take place on December 14, 2024, and will feature Gunther, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest. Aside from the history between all three men, their upcoming Triple Threat match also has other hidden layers.
At Survivor Series 2024, Gunther successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest after Finn Balor intervened during the match. However, The Ring General expressed on the following RAW episode that he didn't appreciate what The Prince did, which resulted in Balor attacking the champion. This set up a title match at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event, but Damian managed to sneak himself in and turn it into a Triple Threat match.
For this list, we will look at four interesting facts about the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat match at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.
#4. Gunther reigns supreme in the stipulation for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event
The Ring General seemingly gets the shorter end of the stick this weekend as he will have to defend the title against two challengers. However, he is the only one out of the three who is undefeated in Triple Threat matches.
Still, it should be noted that The Ring General only competed in one Triple Threat match so far in his career, at WrestleMania 39 where he successfully defended the Intercontinental title against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Meanwhile, Finn has only won four Triple Threat matches out of 11, while Damian won four out of seven.
#3. The World Heavyweight Championship's appearance at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event will be historic
The first ever WWE Saturday Night's Main Event took place in 1985, and several championships have appeared on the special episode since then. However, the big gold belt has never been featured until this weekend.
The Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship will mark the first time the title is on the line in the special episode. In the past, only the WWE Championship has been put on the line.
#2. Finn Balor has taken something from Gunther and Damian Priest
Survivor Series wasn't the first time Finn Balor interfered in Damian vs. Gunther. At SummerSlam, The Prince interfered and cost Priest a title defense. However, this also affected The Ring General.
Finn Balor interfering both times meant that Balor stole the champion's dignity of a proper title win and a proper title defense against Priest.
#1. WWE Saturday Night's Main Event will be another record for the champion
Even as Intercontinental Champion, the Imperium member is known to be one of the company's workhorses and actively defends any title he currently has. He will hit another milestone in his career for the upcoming special episode.
The upcoming NBC special will mark the fourth time The Ring General will defend the title. The first was against Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin, Sami Zayn on RAW, and then Damian Priest at Survivor Series. The special show will also mark his 133rd day as World Heavyweight Champion.
