WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes has lived and breathed pro wrestling since 2006 when he started out under the guidance of his dad, the late legend Dusty Rhodes. The new Undisputed WWE Champion has wrestled in several companies and also participated in several cinematic videos created for promotions. While several big pro wrestling names have also made appearances in Hollywood, does The American Nightmare also have some movies and TV shows under his belt?
Cody Rhodes has followed the path of the villains like Vader, Kane, and many others in DC Comics’ TV show, Arrow. The American Nightmare played the role of drug kingpin Derek Sampson in the show against the vigilante Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell. While he initially starts off as a normal human being, Rhodes’ character later becomes a meta-human.
Sampson gains near-infinite pain tolerance and enhanced regeneration after a chemical accident on the show. Cody Rhodes portrayed the character with conviction, as he took on Starling City’s resident vigilante. Interestingly, the drug Rhodes’ character supplied in the fictional city was called Stardust, which was one of his gimmicks before he left WWE.

Notably, Stephen Amell had arrived at the WWE arena and was attacked by Stardust, following which Amell got in the ring and thrashed Rhodes. This August 2015 brawl really went over with the fans and also hyped the role of The American Nightmare in the show later.
Other than Arrow, the Undisputed WWE Champion has also made a guest appearance in the second season of the TV show, Warehouse 13, as Kurt Smoller. While these appearances brought some popularity to Cody, his biggest role recently etched a new chapter in his career as he finished his story at the main event of WrestleMania XL.
The eventual championship victory of Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes had been chasing his dream of becoming the WWE champion for a very long time. After the culmination of a two-year battle with Roman Reigns, he finally finished his story and honored the legacy of Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. Notably, he had also worked in a documentary in 2023 showcasing his pro wrestling journey, which received a lot of love from fans.
Interestingly, while Rhodes appeared in the TV show Arrow, Stephen Amell, the Canadian actor, has also worked in Rhodes’ documentary. Amell narrated the story of American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes to the viewers and showcased how he left WWE to return as the biggest star in the world.
