When Daniel Bryan refers to WWE fans as 'fickle' there is certainly an element of truth in what he says. And this is because while they may boo The Fiend not becoming Universal Champion, they're the same people who booed Roman Reigns when he was pushed to the top way too soon.
They would have done the same with The Fiend, had the same thing happened in this case. Did the same crowd not complain about Kofi Kingston being a boring Champion when it was upon their very urging that he was made the face of SmackDown Live?

WWE is, of course, cognizant of this fact, and just wanted to bide their time and wait for The Fiend to rise to the top of the heap. One may even argue that a character like him should not care about worldly possessions like Universal Championships.
But in accepting the match, did he prove that he cares?
