Hometown disappointment? - 4 reasons why Bron Breakker shouldn't dethrone Sami Zayn at WWE Money in the Bank

Bron Breakker finally got what he wanted when Sami Zayn agreed to defend the Intercontinental Championship against him at WWE Money in the Bank.

The former two-time NXT Champion was excluded from the King of the Ring Tournament. He'll now have his first big opportunity to become a champion on WWE's main roster.

While Breakker will probably be a WrestleMania main-eventer sooner rather than later, there's no need for Sami Zayn to lose at Money in the Bank. Bron Breakker should not dethrone Zayn in Toronto for the next four reasons.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

#4. Money in the Bank is in Zayn's home country of Canada

One thing Triple H has tried to do a bit more than the previous regime is get stars on cards in their hometowns. Clash at the Castle was laden with Scottish talent. This year's Elimination Chamber event featured Grayson Waller, Indi Hartwell, and a main-event match from Rhea Ripley.

Money in the Bank will emanate from Toronto, and Zayn has been heavily featured on recent shows in Canada. Facing a fast-charging upstart like Bron Breakker is a big challenge, even for a seasoned veteran like Sami Zayn.

Having Zayn lose in his home country would be disappointing. He'll be treated as an overwhelming fan favorite and hometown hero. The fans should go home happy, and Breakker dethroning Zayn won't send them home with smiles.

#3. Sheamus may be involved somehow

When Breakker stepped up to challenge Sami Zayn for the title, Sheamus also came out to put his hat in the ring. It's the one belt that has eluded The Celtic Warrior in his career.

Sheamus and Breakker did battle, but Ludwig Kaiser interfered. Kaiser then faced Breakker on the latest RAW but may have suffered an injury.

With Sheamus looking to finally capture the Intercontinental Championship, he may be added to the match if he cannot qualify for Money in the Bank. If it turns into a triple threat, Zayn can retain the title by pinning Sheamus. Breakker can then get a one-on-one shot at the next big show.

#2. A possible title switch deserves a big stage like SummerSlam

Wrestling events are more memorable when titles are on the line. That importance is intensified when the belts change hands.

Every match at Clash at the Castle had a title on the line, so at least one needed to change hands. A title switch isn't as important at Money in the Bank since the event crowns two potential future champions.

SummerSlam is the next premium live event. If Breakker is going to take the Intercontinental Championship from Zayn, it should be in Cleveland and not at Money in the Bank.

#1. Sami Zayn just won the belt at WrestleMania 40

Sami Zayn did what no one could do at WrestleMania 40.

Gunther's record as Intercontinental Champion sits at 666 days. That record ended at WrestleMania 40 after Sami Zayn won the title from The Ring General.

Zayn's win was not only historic for ending the longest reign but also because it was a redemptive victory for Sami. He lost the magic he had on the Road to WrestleMania 39 and after he and Kevin Owens dropped the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles.

Winning at WrestleMania 40 was the culmination of Zayn's story arc. He couldn't string together big wins until The Show of Shows was in sight. To end the reign that closed out a historic run so soon would lessen the impact of Zayn's accomplishment.

He deserves to hold the title as long as possible and only lose it at SummerSlam at the earliest. It may only be about a four-month reign, but that's better than being fed to the next big star.
