May 12, 2023, was an unfortunate day for the WWE women’s roster as Liv Morgan and Dakota Kai were put on the shelf. The arch-rivals suffered grievous injuries reportedly during the same Women’s Tag Team Championship match. Even though the exact spot of the injuries hasn’t been deliberated by wrestling pundits, fans have seemingly found it.
According to PWInsider, Liv Morgan's injury is believed to be a torn rotator cuff, while and Dakota has suffered a far more serious ACL injury. The Damage CTRL member is rumored to be sidelined for the rest of the year. Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, meanwhile, have had to relinquish the WWE Women’s Tag Titles because the former is said to be needing surgery, too.
According to a majority of wrestling fans on Twitter, a horrendous top-rope spot caused the injuries. Liv Morgan reportedly was already injured, but it got even worse. Dakota Kai knew that Liv had done some mischief to her but failed to minimize the damage. As a result, a modified Powerbomb/Seated Senton combination proved to be more catastrophic.

In the Twitter clip, Dakota Kai can be seen landing awkwardly on her left leg, causing her to shriek in pain. Liv Morgan then seemed to be lost, but she managed to use a Roll-Up Pin on Bayley. After the match, she was seen clutching her shoulder.
Dakota Kai is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. However, there has been no recent update on Liv Morgan. WWE has given no timeline for their expected recovery.
Dakota Kai and Liv Morgan have had an impressive WWE run so far
Dakota Kai made her main roster debut alongside her Damage CTRL mates Iyo Sky and Bayley, in the summer of 2022. They ran roughshod over WWE RAW, dominating top stars such as Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and Bianca Belair. In a span of a few months, Iyo and Dakota won the Women's Tag Team Championship twice.
On the other hand, Liv Morgan has had a different success story. She was at the peak of her powers last year, winning the Women’s Money in the Bank and cashing in successfully on the same day against Ronda Rousey. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion held the gold for 97 days until dropping it in October. She has since found success in the tag team division, teaming up with Tegan Nox and Raquel Rodriguez.
Two prolific superstars, Dakota and Liv crossed paths when the latter won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on April 10. They have since fought multiple times.
It remains to be seen how Damage CTRL and Rodriguez, who chose Shotzi as Morgan’s replacement, cope with the loss of their original partners.
