Brock Lesnar's injury in the main event of WWE Backlash proved to be a decisive factor for Cody Rhodes' victory. The Beast Incarnate only had himself to blame when he missed a shoulder tackle and bumped his head into the exposed turnbuckle. Cody took the initiative with multiple strikes at The Beast's bleeding forehead, softening his opponent for an eventual win.
The 10-time world champion made his presence felt on the latest RAW. He challenged The American Nightmare to a fight at Night of Champions after flattening him with an F5 during the World Heavyweight Championship tournament. His promo, made more menacing by his appearance, was a highlight of the red brand's show.
Brock Lesnar was spotted with a blackened left eye and many stitches on his forehead as a result of his spot at WWE Backlash. He had ten stitches, with a few more stitches visible beside his nose. Lesnar was aware of the 'makeover' and questioned Rhodes whether he took credit for it, while almost twisting his neck.
The Beast has endured much worse in his UFC career. Yet, the way Brock Lesnar's injury was sold on television was highly impressive. WWE Backlash featured blood and now viewers can see stitches, so fans can get an idea of where the promotion is heading after a deal with UFC's parent company.
More extreme wrestling displays could be seen after Brock Lesnar's WWE Backlash match
WWE adopted a TV-PG rating in 2008 to put on content that was more child-friendly and family-friendly. Creating a show that parents won't be embarrassed to let their children watch assured that it would have more channels for profit, ranging from merchandising, and media such as the WWE Network.
Times have changed though. All Elite Wrestling has attracted a large portion of the adult audience with hardcore wrestling displays. It is set to host one of the biggest pay-per-views in history. Thus, Brock Lesnar's injury show after WWE Backlash may not be the last.
WWE is trying to incorporate blood in some segments and matches to keep the entertainment levels high. Nick Khan also mentioned in an interview that he had discussed incorporating gore in the final hour of RAW with NBC Universal.
The Stamford-based promotion usually uses blading and blood capsules. It remains to be seen if Brock Lesnar or other superstars will be given the license to do it the hard way as was seen at WWE Backlash.
