WWE’s partnership with Saudi Arabia has been nothing but lucrative for the sports entertainment juggernaut. Vince McMahon’s promotion has been partnered with the kingdom since 2018. To date, WWE has held eight premium live events in Saudi Arabia. The upcoming Night of Champions will be the ninth event in the deal.

WWE’s current deal with Saudi Arabia will run through 2027. This means the promotion still has four years left on paper. Under the partnership, which was extended in 2019, the company is contractually obligated to hold two premium live events per year in Riyadh or Jeddah. For those unaware, Night of Champions 2023 will emanate from the Jeddah Superdome this Saturday.

It is worth mentioning that the promotion has held several live events in Saudi Arabia in the past. The first WWE live event in Saudi Arabia took place in Riyadh on April 17-19, 2014.

The Greatest Royal Rumble marked the official commencement of premium live events in Saudi Arabia. The event took place at the King Abdullah International Stadium on April 27, 2017. It featured a 50-man royal rumble match for the Greatest Royal Rumble Trophy and Championship. Braun Strowman won the match.

WWE originally had a different name for Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia

Night of Champions 2023 was originally called King and Queen of the Ring. The company rebranded the event, however, reportedly because Roman Reigns will reach his 1,000th day as Universal Champion on the same night. The main event for the show was also revealed by Paul Heyman during RAW this week.

For those unaware, The Tribal Chief will team up with Solo Sikoa to take on Undisputed Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Owens & Zayn have been at war with The Bloodline for months now.

It remains to be seen who will come out as the winner on May 27.
