Randy Orton may not have showed up at NXT Halloween Havoc, but the WWE Universe still got to witness glimpses of the Viper – courtesy of a new WWE star. The star in question is Lexis King (fka Brian Pillman Jr.), and he paid a subtle tribute to the veteran.
For those who may’ve missed, Lexis King made his televised in-ring debut against Dante Chen at Halloween Havoc Night 1. The former AEW star put away his opponent with a Draping Modified Swinging Neckbreaker.

It seems King may have used Orton’s classic swinging DDT as the inspiration for his finisher in NXT. The Legend Killer has destroyed many opponents with the modified DDT move inside the squared circle.
At the time of the writing, the 14-time World Champion hasn’t returned to active in-ring competition. The latest world on Orton’s return is that WWE wants to treat it as a big event, with new merchandise and branding.
“Regarding the Randy Orton return rumors, source states new merchandise & branding has been approved. Also, WWE will present a large social media promotion/digital material for the comeback. It’s indeed happening. Likely Survivor Series or that weekend,” per WrestleVotes.
When was Randy Orton’s last match in WWE before his injury?
Randy Orton last competed on the May 20, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown. The Viper joined Matt Riddle in their RAW Tag Team Championship defense against SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos, in a Winners Takes All Match.
Jimmy and Jey Uso were able to score the win over RK-Bro due to Roman Reigns’ interference. The Bloodline then assaulted Orton and Riddle. The angle was used to write the Viper off television because of his nagging injuries.
It remains to be seen if Orton will return to WWE at Survivor Series, or after the November 25th premium live event.
