My Fantasy Booking
- CM Punk would follow up his appearance at Comic Con by showing up ROH. He would mainly cut promos on their shows, but would eventually defeat ROH Champion Davey Richards to become WWE champion (unofficially) and ROH Champion.
- Alberto Del Rio would cash in his Money in the Bank case on John Cena.- Punk would return to WWE TV at Survivor Series at the end of the WWE Title match. He would arrive with his Title and confront the Champion (much like he did in reality with John Cena on Raw).- The next night, Punk would return to Raw and state that the time was right to return. With Daniel Bryan as World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio as WWE Champion and Vince McMahon gone things had finally changed in the WWE.-Triple H would interrupt Punk. Despite being happy to see Punk back and agreeing to everything he asked for in his new contract, he would inform Punk that he was not the WWE Champion and that he would need to return the WWE Title.-Punk would insist that he was the WWE Champion and that if Del Rio wanted to really be recognised by the fans as WWE Champion that we would have to beat him. At this point, Alberto Del Rio’s music would distract Punk and Triple H would Pedigree Punk.-The next week on Raw Triple H would cut a promo on Punk the following week, stating how it felt good to Pedigree him after the months of stress he had put him through and the fact that Punk held the company to ransom over his contract demands.-Triple H would go on to say that Punk could keep his WWE Title Belt and it meant nothing more than the replica belts that the fans purchased, other than its $25000 value, calling Punk “nothing more than a typical Chicago criminal.”-Triple H would call out Punk, stating he would offer him everything he wanted, rather than owning a materialistic object that didn’t make him the Champion. He could say that Punk could have a no-holds-barred match vs Triple H, something he had always wanted.- The condition would be that if Punk managed to beat Triple H, he would gain entry into the Royal Rumble and earn the chance to legitimise his claim as undisputed Champion on the grandest stage of them all.-Punk could have said, he didn’t need to legitimise his claim as Champion, but for the chance to “beat the Hell out of Triple H” and to ‘defend’ his WWE Title at WrestleMania, he could not refuse and would accept the offer.- At the Royal Rumble, CM Punk would beat Triple H, in a No DQ match, in the opening match. This would be Punk’s first WWE match since Money in the Bank. He would later go on to win the Royal Rumble.-On the same night, Chris Jericho would win the WWE Title as babyface from Alberto Del Rio. However, he would turn heel on Punk on the road to WrestleMania 28.-Punk could have continued to carry around his WWE Title leading up to WrestleMania, despite his No.1 Contender status. Triple H would take a few weeks off TV and would begin the build up to the WrestleMania match with Undertaker when he returned to TV.-Punk would defeat Chris Jericho at WrestleMania to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Summarising my booking
I opted to hold off Punk’s in-ring return until the 2012 Royal Rumble, and the first Punk appearance at MSG at Survivor Series 2011, which manages to keep Punk out of the ring while getting him back on TV by November.
The story I would tell, sells his dispute with WWE by sending him to ROH and making it seem like a shoot, it puts Punk on the chase, as his journey concludes with him unifying the titles against Chris Jericho, and on his first night returning to in-ring action, Punk is established as a mega-star, by both beating Triple H and winning the Royal Rumble.
Most importantly, my booking allows a banged up Punk, who wanted to leave in July, to be completely fresh for his WWE Title run, having only wrestled in a handful of matches between Money in the Bank and WrestleMania, while still increasing his star power. Everybody would have won if Punk had been booked this way.
