Impact Wrestling felt like a new company during Bound For Glory 2017. The fans were electric and the building was on fire for almost every contest.
There were plenty of surprises as Impact Wrestling looked forward to their future and the locker room was willing to put it all on the line. Everyone was in a fury to prove themselves and capture the audience's attention.
The Impact Wrestling roster certainly brought it all during the company's biggest pay-per-view event of the year.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 Trevor Lee vs Dezmond Xavier vs Garza Jr vs Sonjay Dutt vs Matt Sydal vs Petey Williams (X Division Championship Match)
This was a huge match to kick off the pay-per-view. It was announced as a "Lucha Style" match meaning there would be no tagging in and out but there would only be two people in the ring at any given time.
There was a ton of high flying action in this opening contest. It was a very fun match to watch and the crescendo came when Petey Williams finally hit the Canadian Destroyer in Canada for a huge pop. In fact, the crowd was popping hard for pretty much everything all night.
But Trevor Lee would end up tossing everyone else out of the way in order to steal a pinfall.
Winner and STILL X Division Champion: Trevor Lee via pinfall
#2 Tyson Dux vs Taiji Ishimori
Tyson Dux was making his Impact Wrestling debut at Bound For Glory and the announce team proudly proclaimed him as the hottest free agent in Canada which is really nice. Yeah, he is actually a good hand. But he never really amounted to much during his run as an enhancement talent in WWE. However, everyone has to start somewhere and he looked good in a six-sided ring.
Dux did all he could in this short match but Ishimori won the match after a 450 Splash.
Winner: Taiji Ishimori
#3 Grado vs Abyss (Monster's Ball Match With Grado's Vica On The Line)
This match was not only going to be brutal because it's a Monster's Ball match, but it was also going to be for Grado's legal documentation of being able to travel to work. Yes, Bound For Glory certainly had international consequences on the line.
It got very extreme with thumbtacks, interference from Rosemary, and a barbed wire covered board.
The finish came when Abyss was blinded after taking some mist to the eyes so he chokeslammed Rosemary on the thumbtacks. Grado rolled Abyss up in a schoolboy and the referee counted to three and the bell rang.
But apparently, something had gone wrong because Jeremy Borash came out and said Aybss kicked out and then they restarted the match. Abyss then hit Grado with the Black Hole Slam on the barbed wire covered board to get the actual pinfall.
Winner: Abyss via pinfall
#4 EC3, James Storm, and Eddie Edwards vs Texano, El Hijo Del Fantasma, and Pagano
This match got plenty of time for these guys to work. AAA was obviously needing to be represented in this show and they pulled it off in a big way with this match.
The crowd was really hot for this contest though and there were plenty of high spots and fast-paced action.
In the end, EC3 hit Pagano and Texano with low blows. James Storm hit Pagano with a superkick and got the pinfall.
Winners: EC3, James Storm, and Eddie Edwards
#5 oVe vs LAX (Impact Tag Team Title Match - 5150 Steet Fight)
It was time for oVe to prove why they belong on the top of the tag team mountain in Impact Wrestling and the Latin American Exchange were going to do everything they could to make them work for it.
This match was an interesting brawl throughout. The finish came when Sami Callihan threw powder in Konnan's eyes and tossed Santana off the top rope through a ladder that had been set up. Ortiz then took a piledriver off the apron through a table and then OVW pinned Ortiz to get the win.
Winners and STILL Impact Tag Team Champions: OVE
#6 Sienna vs Gail Kim (Knockouts Title Match)
Gail Kim has worked her entire career to prove she is the best in the ring when she's in a match. Bound For Glory was her perfect opportunity to do just that one more time. But she had to make it through Sienna who is not only a worthy opponent but she didn't intend on dropping her title in Canada or any other country for that matter.
The story of this match revolved around Gail Kim winning the title during her final Bound For Glory event.
After a contest that could have been executed a little bit better the finish came when Gail Kim hit an Eat Defeat from the middle rope for the pinfall.
Jeremy Borash said this was Gail Kim's final match which must mean she's going to retire as champion which is a really cool accolade for the TNA Hall Of Famer. Or maybe it's all just a work. Either way, the crowd was very hot for this match too.
Winner and NEW Knockouts Champion: Gail Kim
#7 Bobby Lashley and King Mo Lawal vs Moose and Stephan Bonnar
Before this match started Jimmy Jacobs showed up and after he was told that he doesn't work for Impact he replied, "I don't work here? That's what you think"... that's interesting because he just popped up on ROH as well. He's just going on a tour at this point.
This match was inside the Six Sides Of Steel and they really hyped this contest well. The crowd was very into the match and everyone had their favourite team.
There were several dangerous spots and plenty of MMA fusion in the contest. One amazing part saw Moose launching himself off the top of the cage onto everyone in a crossbody after being locked out of the cage.
In the end, Bobby Lashley would pick up the pinfall after hitting a spear on Moose.
Winners: Bobby Lashley and King Mo Lawal
#8 Eli Drake vs Johnny Impact (Impact Global Championship)
It was time for the main event and the crowd had reached a fever pitch several times already during this incredible event.
These two had a really great match but the crowd seemed tired seeing how they had been blown up the entire night. But once Alberto El Patron got involved it seemed to be all about him.
Alberto El Patron had made his presence known throughout the night and he was out to make sure the main event ended to his liking.
After a skirmish with the title belt Chris Adonis (who was also present of course) took a shot to the fact from the title. But after a Starship Pain from Impact, Alberto pulled the referee out of the ring.
Johnny Impact would wind up taking a shot to the face from the title belt from Alberto El Patron and then the former champion dragged Eli Drake over Impact's body and the referee counted to three.
Winner and STILL Impact Global Champion: Eli Drake
