There was a time when WWE was really working towards a match between Austin and CM Punk. PWInsider notes that during Punk’s entrance for his match against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28 for the WWE Title, production filmed a shot from behind Punk that was similar to how Austin was filmed when he made his big entrances like at WrestleMania 19. This was shot so they could use it in Austin vs Punk promotional material at a much later date.

However, with Punk leaving the company, the WWE fans never got their wish fulfilled as we still await what looks the most mouthwatering clash in WWE history.
