Is Becky Lynch The Anti-Hero We All Deserve?

Is Becky Lynch the
Is Becky Lynch the "next-big-thing" when it comes to top superstars of each era?

What is an anti-hero? What defines an anti-hero? What makes anti-heroes so great?

From Breaking Bad's Walter White to Django from Django Unchained, anti-heroes blur the lines between the definition of a protagonist & an antagonist.

A story requires the presence of a villain & a hero, just like WWE- there is always a heel & a babyface. But anti-heroes (or tweeners) transcend the idea of morality & basic rules of storytelling on several occasions. Stone Cold Steve Austin is perhaps the most successful anti-hero WWE has ever seen.

Every anti-hero has a motivation or a spark which leads to them overcoming obstacles by any means necessary. An Anti-Hero has to achieve a goal, but he/she does not need to stay true to one's morals in order to do so.

That brings us to Becky Lynch. Once a fan-favorite (she still is) amongst the WWE Universe, the Irish Lass Kicker has realized that the path to ultimate glory does not lie in staying true to one's course. Therefore, Lynch has finally decided to carve her own path in order to stand out.

Is Becky Lynch the anti-hero we all deserve? Let's find out...

#3 Lynch Wasn't Born To Be Champion, She Fought To Be One

Enter
Opportunities don't come knocking on the door for everyone...

Earlier, Becky Lynch tried to achieve ultimate glory by doing it "the right way". As it turns out, by pleasing the fans every night & staying true to her course, opportunities went past her each week.

Unlike Charlotte Flair, Becky was not born to be a champion since day one. Lynch had to fight in order to reach a point where others fortunate enough to do so had already reached with less effort.

Therefore, after a certain point, pleasing the fans was just not enough anymore. Becky ditched her 'Straight-Fire' persona & decided to become what she should have a long time ago, that is, an anti-hero.

As it is evident by a change in her attire, the glitz & glamour simply doesn't fetch you top honors that easily. That glittery phase of her career is over, & achieving the top spot by taking shortcuts is what it is all about now.

She is still fighting to be a champion, but this time around, Becky is going to do it the smart way...

If taking shortcuts is the only option left, why do people cheer for her then?

#2 The Fans Believe That Becky's Actions Are Justified

Can anti-heroes be justified?
Can anti-heroes be justified?

Think about it this way- Whenever we watch a movie, & the protagonist just so happens to be an anti-hero, why do we justify the protagonist's immoral actions?

This is because we understand the mentality of the character at hand. You see, Becky turning heel all of a sudden does make sense. There are arguments to justify her actions.

The "character" Becky Lynch was born to live in a small house by the side of the road in Dublin. She was destined to work a job she didn’t like and barely make ends meet. So when Becky works just as hard (if not more) as her fellow competitors & is still not able to achieve what she truly deserves, there is something wrong with the system.

The world is not fair & it is only you who shapes out your own destiny. The "character" Becky Lynch learned that mantra probably a few weeks leading up to Summerslam. This is why the fans agree with her, now more than ever.

Despite taking shortcuts, her momentum has reached a peak like never before. No, it is not because the WWE wants you to "boo" her. This is Becky's story in the end, as explained further in the next slide...

#1 Becky Is The Ultimate Protagonist In Her Feud Against Charlotte Flair

Despite it seeming otherwise, this is Becky's story all along...
Despite it seeming otherwise, this is Becky's story all along...

WWE wants you to cheer Becky Lynch here. Charlotte Flair is still a babyface, but she only acts as a catalyst to the story of the rise of Becky Lynch.

Charlotte Flair never stops smiling. Currently, she is the one following morals out of the two, but that does not change the fact Charlotte will never understand Becky Lynch's stance.

Flair has been a champion on numerous occasions, all she had to do was defeat Carmella in order to insert herself back into the title picture. Therefore, the "character" Charlotte Flair will never understand why Becky had to adopt an "anti-hero" persona.

Unlike several fans, the "character" Charlotte Flair views Becky Lynch as a heel, not an anti-hero. Lynch has to work thrice as hard in order to get a title shot, unlike Charlotte Flair. This scenario acts as a trigger for fans to support Becky Lynch.

So in the end, this is Becky Lynch's story. It does not matter who holds the title currently, & it does not matter which path Becky Lynch chooses to take here. All that matter is the struggle leading up to the climax.

Nobody knows when the "climax" will eventually happen. But if Lynch has to struggle in order to reach the top, the fans will cheer for her nevertheless.

It is all about setting an agenda against the order of establishment. That is why people cheer for Stone Cold Steve Austin, & that is why people cheer Becky Lynch. In this obtuse world of professional wrestling, heroes do not need to follow morals all the time...
