CM Punk hasn't been able to return to in-ring action since the Men's Royal Rumble Match earlier this year. However, he has been in the ring for segments, promos, and even as a referee! The Second City Saint played a huge part in the recently concluded Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest main event title match at Clash at the Castle: Scotland this past weekend. Punk appeared in a referee's shirt only to cost The Scottish Warrior a stunning victory in front of his home crowd.
This malicious stunt added more fuel to the fire in the feud between the two veterans. The Scottish Warrior will undoubtedly return seeking revenge. Unfortunately, however, the former World Heavyweight Champion will need to be patient until The Voice of the Voiceless is medically cleared. It appears that Punk is not expected to be cleared for the Money in the Bank PLE next month.
The premium live event is scheduled for July 6, and as per WrestleVotes on X (formerly Twitter), CM Punk is not likely to be cleared until SummerSlam. The Biggest Party of the Summer is scheduled for August 3, 2024. However, not being medically cleared doesn't guarantee that he won't be at the PLE next month.
The Second City Saint had made the bold claim that The Scottish Warrior would never be champion again. Keeping that in mind, if McIntyre qualifies for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, fans can expect Punk to interfere and cost him the MITB briefcase as well.
CM Punk previously cost Drew McIntyre a title shot
Drew McIntyre dethroned Seth Rollins to become the new World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XL. However, McIntyre's victory celebration involved rubbing the title win in CM Punk's face, which backfired.
Punk attacked McIntyre with his armbrace once he had seen enough and Damian Priest capitalized on this moment to cash in the Money in the Bank contract over a hapless McIntyre to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Following this, The Scottish Warrior had the chance to secure a title bout against Priest at Backlash France, in a match to be the number-one contender. The contender was to be decided via a Fatal Four-way Match between Drew McIntyre, Jey Uso, Ricochet, and Bronson Reed.
McIntyre was close to securing the victory and all he had to do was take down Uso with a Claymore. Right before he could take off to execute his finishing move, Punk appeared from thin air and held him back by grabbing onto Drew's ankle. The distraction proved beneficial for Main Event Jey, who managed to pin McIntyre and become the number-one contender.
Each of these distractions and interferences has played a pivotal role in developing the McIntyre vs. CM Punk feud. Fans are convinced the match between the two will be an absolute thriller once the Second City Saint is finally medically cleared.
