Haku (real name - Tonga ʻUliʻuli Fifita) is a legendary professional wrestler known for his fearsome reputation across multiple promotions. Debuting in the 1970s, Haku found success in Japan before truly making his mark in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) during the 1980s and 90s. There, he competed under various ring names, including King Tonga and King Haku.
While known for his intensity in the ring, Haku is perhaps most celebrated for his dominant tag team run with Tama as "The Islanders." Together, they captured the WWF World Tag Team Championship and battled some of the biggest names of the era. Haku's career extended beyond the WWF, with notable stints in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) under the name Meng. As The Islanders, the two were considered to be a part of the Samoan wrestling family or the Anoa’i Family. This connection was further solidified after the Anoa’i family’s The Rock called him Uncle.
What is the relationship between The Rock and Haku?
The Rock considers Haku to be his uncle, though they aren't blood relatives. Haku is close to The Rock's family and has been in the wrestling business for many years. The Rock even calls him "Uncle Tonga." They share a bond and respect within the wrestling world.
On the Christmas of 2015, The Rock took to Instagram to share his love and appreciation for Uncle Tonga. He gifted Haku a new truck and revealed that the high chief Peter Maivia, Rock’s Grandfather, helped train Haku to become a professional wrestler, and since then the two families have had close ties. When WWE called The Rock to show up as soon as possible for his tryouts, he was broke and did not even have money to buy trunks. It was Haku who gave him his purple trunks, which was Haku’s signature color.
Who are the sons of Haku?
Haku has four children, but in the world of professional wrestling, three of his sons have taken center stage.
Tonga Loa
This is Haku's biological son. Tonga Loa, whose real name is Anoi Alofi, wrestles alongside his brother Tama Tonga as part of a tag team known as "Guerrillas of Destiny" (G.O.D.). They've achieved success in multiple promotions, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) where they were multiple-time champions. The two made a splash in WWE as part of "The Bloodline" alongside Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman.
Tama Tonga
While not Haku's biological son, Tama Tonga (real name Alipate Aloisio Leone) is his nephew whom Haku raised and considers his adopted son. Just like Tonga Loa, Tama Tonga has carved his path in professional wrestling. He's also a founding member of the Bullet Club alongside wrestlers like Bad Luck Fale and Prince Devitt (Finn Balor). He currently teams with his brother Tonga Loa and has found success in both NJPW and WWE.
Hikuleo
Hikuleo is the real brother of Tama Tonga and the adoptive son of Haku. Both Tonga and Hikuleo were adopted by Haku when they were quite young. Like Tonga and Loa, Hikuleo also made a name for himself while wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling.
