LA Knight dethroned Logan Paul at SummerSlam 2024 to become the new United States Champion. The Maverick tried his best to retain the title, even using the brass knuckles but failed miserably.

Considering WWE's massive push to Logan Paul since he signed with the company, one may wonder whether The Maverick dropped the championship because he is leaving the company. Well, the answer is no.

The Maverick signed a multi-year contract with WWE in April 2023 and renewed it again in January 2024 for approximately $15 Million. If the reports are to be believed, his contract will expire around January 2027. Even though he lost the United States Championship, Paul will continue to work with the Stamford-based promotion under WWE SmackDown.

The former United States Champion made his WWE debut on the April 2, 2021 episode of WWE SmackDown as Sami Zayn's guest, and was even present at WrestleMania 37. So far, The Maverick has had nine singles matches in WWE and has won five of those matches. The only superstars to have defeated The Maverick in WWE are Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, LA Knight, and Cody Rhodes.

Jim Cornette believed LA Knight needed to dethrone Logan Paul

Prior to the SummerSlam match between LA Knight and Logan Paul, several speculations were going around. Of course, most of the WWE Universe wanted Knight to dethrone Paul.

Jim Cornette is one of the people who believed Knight needed the victory, and it would also help push The Maverick in a different direction.

"I think he needs to win this. And if they want Logan Paul to go in a different direction, maybe somebody else can assist him in losing that by clocking him in the head or something. I don't know, but LA Knight needs to come out of this somehow with the belt and at least pinning him, you know, for the thing."

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Paul, and who he will face in his next feud.
