Malakai Black (fka Aleister Black) lost to Adam Cole in a singles match on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. Following the defeat, further speculations of whether or not he was returning to WWE resurfaced.
As per previous reports, his AEW contract is ending either at the end of 2024 or early next year, even though in 2022 Tony Khan had revealed that Malakai Black had signed a five-year deal with the company.
Fans finally have an answer from the former WWE Superstar himself. Malakai Black broke his silence on social media, where he clarified that neither was he injured nor was he retiring or leaving.
"Here we are once more, the match down, and again, everybody here is, 'Oh, he's retiring because of his injuries, and this and that!' Well, neither of these things. I'm not injured, nor am I retiring nor am I leaving. I feel this happens every match I have, and I don't understand how many times are you gonna say these things, and then [it] not happening, and people are still going to fall for that," he said.
What sparked the rumors of Black's departure from AEW was him embracing Adam Cole following the defeat, which is rather unlikely for his character. It's important to note that while he isn't leaving immediately as per his message on social media, it is unknown if a new contract has been signed.
Malakai Black would have been the perfect rival for The Wyatt Sicks
The Wyatt Sicks have an extreme supernatural aura, and one of the ways to fight them is by embracing the same darkness. Their first target was Chad Gable who couldn't stand against them, and this time, it doesn't seem like The Miz will be able to either.
While The Final Testament might help The Miz against The Wyatt Sicks, Aleister Black has the perfect dark persona needed to battle Uncle Howdy and his faction.
Nevertheless, with Triple H leading WWE's creative product, one can never say never with the Stamford-based promotion and former superstars returning.
