Is Mr McMahon a billionaire?

Last Modified Oct 25, 2023 11:20 GMT

Vince McMahon is one of the most recognizable names in all of pro wrestling. Widely popular as the owner and show-runner of WWE, McMahon is essentially one of the biggest reasons behind WWE's huge success.

Be it the mind-blowing concept of WrestleMania or the edgy content of the Attitude Era, McMahon has played a number of gambles in WWE. It is safe to say that most of his gambles have eventually paid off. His father Vincent J. McMahon was the owner of WWF prior to him. However, Mr. McMahon did not inherit the company but bought it.

After purchasing the company in 1982, McMahon completely revolutionized not just WWE, but the whole industry. From a regional sport, pro wrestling soon became a global phenomenon. McMahon owned the majority of the company for 41 years before WWE was merged with UFC to form TKO Holdings.

In this four-decade journey, McMahon has garnered a lot of fame, and of course, has printed a lot of money. Mr. McMahon is famous for money and thus fans often wonder as to how rich he actually is. Everyone knows that McMahon is a millionaire, but is he a billionaire?

Is Vince McMahon a Billionaire?

Yes. Vince McMahon aka Mr. McMahon is a billionaire and his net worth is more than triple of a billion. As of 2023, the former WWE Chairman is worth at least $3.1 Billion. WWE claimed that he had become a billionaire before 2001. 1999 is actually the year his worth crossed that mark due to the public listing of WWE’s stock. His wealth kept hovering around that 1 Billion mark for about one and a half decades and took a leap of faith around 2018.

The jump from a net worth of around $1 Billion to more than $3 Billion can be credited to two major points. Firstly, WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia in line with Saudi Vision 2030 is believed to greatly benefit the net worth of WWE. Secondly, WWE’s takeover by the Endeavour Group valued the company at $9.3 Billion. As McMahon was the single largest shareholder in the company, his net worth saw a significant boost.

Why did Vince McMahon sell XFL?

The XFL was founded by Mr. McMahon as an alternative to the NFL. McMahon’s decision to mix the aspects of American Football and Pro Wrestling was received poorly by the fans, and hence the league was folded just after one season. However, McMahon’s dream for XFL reignited in the late 2010s.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 impacted the XFL’s planned revival. Mr. McMahon invested about $500 Million in the XFL during the league’s existence, and it is safe to say that it all went in vain. Due to the financial failure of the league and the lack of interest from viewers, McMahon decided to sell the league. It was bought by the consortium led by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in just $15 Million.

FAQs
