McAfee returned for his second stint as a commentator during the 2024 Royal Rumble earlier this year and has since been a regular presence on Monday Night RAW, calling the action alongside lead commentator Michael Cole. This update has left many fans wondering if McAfee is retiring. The simple answer is no.
McAfee has a contract with ESPN and will be moving to host the weekly College Gameday show for the football season. College football begins this Saturday, August 24.

The Stamford-based company has also announced that Michael Cole will be moving to SmackDown starting in September. Former ESPN broadcaster Joe Tessitore will replace him as the new voice of Monday Night RAW. It will be interesting to see who joins Tessitore on the commentary desk.

Pat McAfee will be off WWE television for a while as he focuses on his duties with The Pat McAfee Show and his role as an analyst for College Gameday.
During a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the 37-year-old expressed his sadness about stepping away. He mentioned that he feels this is where he truly belongs and hopes that the Stamford-based company recognizes this as well.
"I’m bummed out. Football season’s starting which is awesome, but the WWE family’s where I’m supposed to be. I know that – and I hope they do too," Pat McAfee said. [H/T Metro ]
College football season will continue until December 14, with the postseason wrapping up by the end of January. It will be interesting to see if Pat McAfee makes a return after that, possibly making an appearance at the 2025 Royal Rumble.
