Is there no one to challenge AJ Lee's dominant run in the WWE?

When AJ Lee makes her way to the commentary booth, there is a huge possibility that that’s going to be the best part of what’s going to follow- a Divas match. For months, it was speculated and discussed heavily that a match between Paige and AJ Lee will revitalize the Divas Division that has slumped further and further in recent years.

And now, it has been overdone to a pulp. It was a pleasant surprise to see The Bella Twins deliver a better match than the match for the Divas Championship. It was great to see a good match coming out of two divas who have been horrible with their promos and their storyline.

Introducing the Bellas into the mix

The Bellas have improved considerably over the past one year and that is an apparent observation. They have been able to execute many moves considered to be high risk in this division. The matches between Paige and AJ have their own share of moves that the Divas have rarely experimented with.

But considering that they are trained wrestlers, expectations are much higher from them and Creative has failed miserably in bringing the drama in this feud. Trust Creative to not utilize a feud to its topmost potential.

The hard part is that even after their splendid match at Hell In A Cell, Brie Bella and Nikki Bella haven’t really been able to replicate or continue with that momentum. That was one match that was good and the audience looked like they were really into that match. It was crisp, stiff and dramatic.

What matters and what doesn’t

Over the past few months, there have been multiple matches and divas segments on Raw which has increased their screen time considerably. The introduction of Total Divas has made that inevitable. But WWE has failed to make it matter. Even PPV’s have two diva matches these days. AJ Lee has been transformed into someone invincible. It is well known what comes with such invincibility.

Since the past 2 years, AJ Lee has been the most dominating and interesting female characters which led WWE to say that she is a polarizing character in this company. But who isn’t in such ambiguous times? It’s problematic enough that she gets the ‘CM Punk’ chants every time she makes an appearance. And on top of that she has already won the Divas Title 3 times- all in a matter of 3 months. The 22 year old Paige is already a 2 time Divas Champion. That’s just some major overload.

Alicia Fox was introduced to this equation and nothing really came out of it.Emma makes fleeting appearances. There was this one ridiculous gimmick match and the like.

So,in short there hasn’t been any pathbreaking change in this division. Sure, Paige’s arrival has brought back some aggression but that hasn’t been channelized well in the long run.

Punished or not?

There is always a way to conjure things up in one’s head. CM Punk and WWE are surely not in good terms, surely they’ve made some sort of a deal, but Punk did quit the company before his contract expired. That hasn’t really made the company punish AJ Lee, who got married to Punk earlier this year. In a manner where she suffers major losses and all that jazz.

It would be ridiculous and regressive if it was to happen. But giving her such an invincible hold in the Divas Division doesn’t really help things. WWE needs to introduce her kryptonite soon to make the most of this particular situation. Someone other than Paige.

It would be great to see Charlotte make an appearance but it seems that Charlotte and Paige might have a better chemistry than with AJ. We know the Bella Twins can produce a good match, why not have one of them face AJ Lee? That can be interesting.
