It appears that Kairi Sane will be forced to miss some shows to recover from injuries she has been dealing with. Last week, she was seen on RAW wearing a knee brace, but things became worse this week.
The former Women's Tag Team Champion was assaulted backstage by Pure Fusion Collective and was taken out by the faction before Dakota Kai and IYO SKY came to her aid.
If she misses time to recover, Kairi Sane will be unable to compete next week, when she is slated to face Natalya and Alba Fyre for a spot in the semi-finals of the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Championship.
According to Fightful, IYO SKY will replace Sane and will look to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament. The other member of Damage CTRL, Dakota Kai, has already advanced to the semi-finals and will take on Zoey Stark.
Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?
Meanwhile, WWE has yet to provide an update on Kairi Sane's status, thus the backstage assault could be a good way to write her off TV.
Wrestling star praises Kairi Sane for helping her wrestle in Japan
Kairi Sane is considered one of the best Japanese wrestlers in the world, and her time with WWE is proof of that. Back in the summer, she attended a wrestling event in Japan, the Marigold Summer Destiny, where fellow WWE star IYO SKY was competing at.
During the event, another wrestling star, Myla Grace, met Sane backstage and had nothing but high praise for her and how much she helped her career.
"I spoke to Kairi quite a bit because obviously she put my name forward [in getting me to Japan], and she came over and said hi. She was like ‘You’re Nikki [Cross’] friend,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, I know. Thank you so, so much. This has been the biggest dream come true. You have no idea how much like this means to me.’ Then I think after having that chat, that’s when I started getting emotional and everything started hitting me," Myla Grace said. (H/T WrestleZone)
Kairi has spent a total of six years with WWE so far. She joined the company in 2016 and stayed there through 2021. She came back a year ago, and the expectation is that she will stay with WWE for many years. Sane has won the NXT Women's Championship once and the Women's Tag Team Titles twice.
