The reigning Women's World Heavyweight Champion made her professional wrestling debut in 2007, at the age of 16, on the Independent Circuit. Her first ring name was Io Shirai, and she teamed up with her sister Mio Shirai as Team Makehen for three years before the two sisters joined hands with Kana, better known by the name Asuka.
