Is Iyo Sky related to Asuka?

Asuka and IYO SKY are two of the most decorated and talented professional wrestlers in the WWE women’s division. The two stars are both from Japan and spent time together as part of the Damage CTRL faction. Asuka and SKY often interact in Japanese and their meet and greets, personas, and wrestling gear are seemingly similar to each other, which has made a lot of people wonder whether they are related to each other in any way. So here is a brief answer to the question.

Is IYO SKY related to Asuka?

In simple words, No! Asuka and IYO SKY are not related to each other. They are not sisters, or cousins and do not have any blood relation. However, both have a long history and connection through wrestling. IYO and Asuka have not only worked for WWE but also worked for Japanese independent pro-wrestling promotions in the past.

Asuka (under the name Kana) was once in a trio stable named “Triple Tails” with Io Shirai (IYO SKY) and her sister Mio Shirai. Asuka and the Shirai sisters were a dominant stable in Japan, before Asuka made the move to WWE. Fans expected both IYO and Asuka to make impactful debuts in WWE, as they were considered two of the most talented female wrestlers. Asuka was one of the most dominant NXT Women's Champions of all time, and IYO also proceeded to join NXT and become the brand's champion, showcasing her high-flying abilities and top-class wrestling skills.

In July 2020, when Asuka was the RAW Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks and Bayley were on a hunt for championships on every roster. Banks and Bayley were the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, and Bayley held the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Sasha challenged Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship, meanwhile, Sasha went to NXT and challenged then-Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship. They had a match at The Great American Bash, where Asuka stood in Io Shirai’s corner and helped her retain her title, by spraying green mist in Sasha Banks’ face. In an interview, Io stated that she wanted to join hands with Asuka on the main roster naming themselves the “Twin Tails”, as her sister Mio was retired from wrestling.

The duo ultimately did team up, under the Damage CTRL faction alongside Dakota Kai and Kairi Sane.
