Jey Uso to betray Cody Rhodes during their title match on WWE SmackDown tonight? Exploring potential twist

Tonight's WWE SmackDown will feature Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso's open challenge for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship. There are many active tag teams in the company currently, but someone very close to the champs can answer their open challenge.

Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso became the new Undisputed Tag Team Champions at Fastlane after defeating Finn Balor and Damian Priest. The new champions already defended their gold against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. However, more action from the two will be seen tonight on WWE SmackDown.

Rhodes and Jey became a team after the latter transferred to RAW. Main Event Jay switched brands following Jimmy's betrayal at SummerSlam 2023. With Roman Reigns returning to the blue brand tonight, it's possible that he could cross paths with the Tag Team Champions.

Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa could answer the open challenge after being pressured by The Tribal Chief. On the other hand, Reigns could convince Jey to rejoin The Bloodline. Reigns can even manipulate Uso into thinking that Rhodes is only using him to get back at The Tribal Chief. However, even with this in mind, it's unlikely that Jey will rekindle his relationship with The Bloodline anytime soon.

If Uso decides to betray his partner, the former could do so by saying that he felt pressured by Rhodes to return to the blue brand.

Rhodes and Jey opened the recently concluded Premium Live Event, which meant they had a lot of time to celebrate their win. It was evident during their post-show press conference, where the duo seemingly got a few drinks at Cody's bus.

Jey repeatedly kept saying "Yeet," Rhodes was also randomly barking at times, and the duo kept laughing together. Fortunately, the Stamford-based promotion had no problems with this, especially since they did not cross any lines.

Who could challenge Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso at WWE SmackDown?

It was already established that Solo and Jimmy could answer the open challenge for the Tag Team Titles, but other teams could also step up against them on WWE SmackDown.

Recently rumored Authors of Pain could also answer the call. Damage CTRL's Bayley has also mentioned that she missed being a champion and even suggested that she, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY could answer the challenge.

It remains to be seen who will eventually face Rhodes and Jey on tonight's WWE SmackDown.
