John Cena recently made a huge announcement that has had a drastic impact on the WWE Universe. Making a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank, Cena rocked the world of pro wrestling by announcing his decision to retire. But, while big changes may not be on the horizon for The Leader of the Cenation, one of his former rivals may also be on the verge of making a huge change.
The rival in question is the star that John Cena faced at WrestleMania 39, former United States Champion and WWE Tag Team Champion, Austin Theory. The two men faced off in a heated clash at The Show of Shows 39th edition with the US title on the line. Although marred with controversy, the match ended in Theory's favor, as he used a low blow to his advantage. However, while that is all well and good, what big change could be on the cards for him?
Well, Austin Theory could be on the verge of becoming a babyface, something that John Cena has been throughout his career. Grayson Waller's actions on recent episodes of SmackDown coupled with Johnny Gargano's attempt to make him see the light, could be exactly what leads to this metamorphosis. Additionally, he would join both Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, forming a new faction that could be dubbed "The Way 2.0".
It would be interesting to see Theory reunite with his former mentor Gargano. However, this is nothing more than speculation at this point. Only time will tell whether or not Theory decides to embrace this potential to change, or reject it.
John Cena could have a rematch with Austin Theory on his retirement tour
As mentioned earlier, John Cena will kick off his retirement tour in a few months. It will be a momentous occasion, as it signals the end of an era for WWE and the last time for fans around the world to watch The Champ in action. As part of the tour, perhaps Cena may choose to rematch some of his former opponents.
There are plenty of superstars who could answer the call. The Rock, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins are but a few who come to mind. Who knows? Cena may even take on Austin Theory once more. This time around, perhaps there will be a more respectful feel to the match, one filled with reverence, as the new-gen star, Theory takes on the seasoned old veteran Cena.
It certainly would be interesting to see Cena and Theory share the ring once more. But, as with Theory's potential face turn, this is just mere conjecture. The WWE Universe will just have to wait and see what the future holds.
