At this year's Money in the Bank, veteran WWE Superstar John Cena made an emotional announcement. The 16-time World Champion announced his retirement and said he would be having his farewell run until the end of next year. Since then, many have been interested in knowing whether WWE will book Cena to lift a record 17th World Title.
Several speculations have suggested a potential match between Randy Orton and John Cena could see the latter win his 17th World Championship as they believe Orton will be champion by then. However, there is a chance WWE could book the Leader of Cenation to defeat Cody Rhodes and claim a record 17th title.
In the coming weeks, WWE could create an angle in which they could book Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, after which Randy Orton could challenge The Ring General and beat him. The controversial finish between Gunther and Orton in the final of the King of the Ring Tournament could get the latter that potential title shot.
Once this is done, WWE could book John Cena to win the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes, and later book Orton to lose the World Heavyweight Championship. Heading towards WrestleMania 41, fans would then get to see a title feud between Cena and Orton.

In this potential match, Cena could drop the title to The Apex Predator, helping the latter add another feather to his cap. While this storyline is fairly speculative, an angle such as this would witness Cena and Orton become 17 and 16-time World Champions respectively.
