Kevin Owens made his return to WWE SmackDown during the go-home episode before King and Queen of the Ring 2024. However, despite being in Saudi Arabia, the Prizefighter wasn't featured in this premium live event. Meanwhile, the recent development by Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn has led to speculation about whether Owens will follow the same path and bring back a devastating career-threatening move.
The reason for this belief stems from both Rhodes and Zayn executing their banned moves in recent PLE matches. The Intercontinental Champion used a turnbuckle brainbuster during his clash against Bronson Reed and Chad Gable. Additionally, the Undisputed WWE Champion used a vertebreaker, moves they both hadn't used in the squared circle for a while.
With this in mind, many fans believe that the Prizefighter could also bring back his devastating Steenalizer in WWE. Owens used this move during his indie run, smashing his opponent's head directly on the turnbuckle. However, despite the return of the turnbuckle brainbuster and vertebreaker, the return of the Steenalizer seems unlikely due to the extra risk of head injury. WWE is certainly more focused nowadays on the health of its superstars.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
Despite this, Kevin Owens could bring back his package piledriver move, which seems more realistic and holds a greater chance of being reintroduced. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks and whether Kevin Owens will also bring back his old maneuvers in WWE.
What is next for Kevin Owens in WWE?
Upon his return to the blue brand, Owens rescued Randy Orton from Solo Sikoa's version of the Bloodline after the Viper defeated Tama Tonga in the semifinals of King of the Ring. With this angle, the Prizefighter could reignite his feud against the Samoan faction and seek revenge for his loss at Backlash France.
If not, then he can form a tag team with Randy Orton on Friday nights, and they could challenge Austin Theory and Grayson Waller for the World Tag Team titles.
Both directions seem interesting for the former Universal Champion. A renewed feud with the Bloodline would allow Kevin Owens to settle unfinished business. On the other hand, a tag team alliance with the Legend Killer could be a realistic and exciting option, adding a fresh dynamic to the tag team division.
Only the upcoming episodes of Friday Night SmackDown will reveal the direction WWE chooses for Owens.
